I don't follow the NFL as closely as some around here so I was wondering what people think. A couple of picks doesn't seem like a lot even though I know NFL picks can help you right away. Redscull - aren't you a Redskins fan? What do you think. link: tsn.ca/nfl/story/?id=316705

Not a Redskins fan, but I am a Rams fan and this trade sort of affects us.
Yes, I admit I am a Rams fan.
The Rams were one of the teams rumored to be in the running for McNabb, and while I don't particularily think that would have been a good deal, the Redskins were one of the teams rumored to be interested in the Rams 1st overall draft pick. I think trading down from that pick would have been the best thing the Rams could do, but now it seems rather certain that they are going to take QB Sam Bradford instead. A move I am not entirely sure I like. Yeah, the Rams need a quarterback. But they were 1-15, they need a lot of things. Bradford isn't considered the best player available this year, most sites don't even have him in the top 5 best players available. Heck, some don't even have him as the best QB available, so I don't get the fascination with drafting him. People keep saying "look at Peyton Manning, look what he did" but you're talking about one of the best quarterbacks of all time. Is Bradford going to be that guy? Or is he going to be the next Alex Smith or Jamarcus Russell?
I'd would have preferred to see them trade down to the Redskins at #4, pick up a couple of extra picks and take Jimmy Clausen instead. Or stick with the #1, take Suh the defensive tackle, and try to nab a QB in later rounds, perhaps Colt McCoy or maybe even Tim Tebow.
The Rams aren't going to be very good next year, no matter who the QB is. Might as well take the best player available, if you ask me. Seeing McNabb go to Washington just pushes the Rams towards Bradford...

Not Skull but I am a lifelong 'Skins fan...
Personally for me, it's just about my breaking point. SInce Snyder took ownership there have been a ton of down moments but this is right there with it. With regards to McNabb, I have always thought he was extremely over-rated. Add the fact he was an Eagle and he's long been among my mosted hated opponents. To put it in a Hab perspective, I felt similarily when the Habs acquired Gilmour except this is multiplied by 10x. Jason Campbell wasn't getting it done either and I do feel it's an upgrade no matter what but this team has so many holes that the 37th overall pick would have most likely been a starter from the onset. Listening to NFL network here on the laptop and the general consensus is that Philly will regret this move, especially to a rival that plays them twice a season. Many comparisons being made to when Shanahan took over the Broncos, Elway was a 34 year old QB who 'couldn't win the big game'. While many consider McNabb old, he's only 33. Has he lost a step, yes but he's still more elusive than at least half the existing QB's around the league. Again though, I just don't think he's that good. I hope he proves me wrong and I will gladly eat crow but my first reaction upon getting the news last night was to seriously consider finding another team...this from someone who is also a lifelong Baltimore Oriole fan (ie. i am always loyal through a lot with my teams).

Anything that helps a divisional opponent I hate ... My Cowboys are going to have a tough time repeating as divisional champs now. The NFC East has to have, as a group, the best QBs of any division - Romo, Vick, McNabb, Manning .

Is McNabb any better than what the Eagles have right now? I don't think so, and if so, not by much. McNabb had one of his better seasons but at his age, it will soon go down. This has more to do with $$$ and cap implications. By trading Donovan, they can keep Kolb (who they were going to have to tag) and not pay him top dollars like the Mannings, Romo's, Favre's, Brees, etc. Plus draft picks are really valuable in the NFL and the Eagles got some great value. Think of it as trading in an old pickup (you know it can still do the job) for a some nice accessories for you sports car.
