I would think that saying "There is considerable interest" should be called tampering. Burke is trying to influence a bidding war ....

He may get a 1st rounder back but it won't be close to the number 2 overall he gave to Boston.
BTW I read somewhere (Dreger??) that Chiarelli has confirmed that he has talked to Edmonton about swapping their picks.
Burke is upset by the # of shots the Leafs are taking on HNIC? What shots? Has he watched any Habs games this spring?
Boo Hoo Burke.

Edmonton is smart not to show their hand -- if they say "we pick [X]" and that's not who Boston wants then there is no reason for the Bs to give anything.
Of course, if Edmonton is set on their guy then they shouldn't take the risk at all.
Drama!

If the Oil could get Seguin (they really need a good centreman) and also get another high pick from Boston (they have tons of picks this year and next) then it should be a really tempting offer. The Oilers are in the drivers seat, but they have really blown their first rounders too. At least this year, they should not be able to blow this.

Neither would be all that bad for the Oilers, but what would Chiarelli have to do in order to get that done. They've been taking it on the chin for a while now. Remember this cover from 2008? Haven't seen too many Habs jokes lately. Cheers.

I saw one Coach's Corner segment recently during which Maclean mentioned something about Burke being upset with Cherry's (HNIC's) comments, and Don responded along the lines of, "Oooo...Brian Burke's upset....oooooo.....I'm shakin'......I'm scared."
Can't wait til after the playoffs....Burke will let go with those hand grenades.
Don't bite the hand that consistently feeds you, Burke. HNIC continues to be your biggest marketing tool/advocate. It's not their fault you finished 29th in a 30-team league and gave away 2 first-rounders in the process. They'll be back on your side as soon as the playoffs are over--as the 44th consecutive installment of "The Leafs will win the Cup" campaign will begin.
Can't believe his spin that says they're happy with the 62nd pick. Perfect GM for the Leafs....full of BS.

I would think that saying "There is considerable interest" should be called tampering. Burke is trying to influence a bidding war .... I don't see how that's tampering. We hear that sort of thing from GMs all the time when they talk about trading one of their highly coveted players. It's not unreasonable to expect there to be a lot of interest around Kaberle, so Burke would be smart to drive up Kaberle's price by saying something like that. I don't see the harm in that at all. Like I said, this tactic isn't new - we've seen it before. And I can't believe that Burke is complaining to HNIC about the negative treatment his Leafs are getting. I thought Burke is supposed to be tough. I'm surprised he's crying about it.
