We are about to have an election here!! It seems that the only advertising on tv are spots for the candidates. Surprisingly I saw an ad today for Meg Whitman that actually said what she plans to do. It seems all the ads are attack ads against the other candidate, Brown, Whitman, Fiorina and Boxer. I never saw this kind of negative campaigning in Canada, not to this degree and not the kind of lies and half truths they use here. Google the California ballot information and see everything from dogcatcher to deputy sheriff listed. I used to work in cable advertising and know how the cost of spot rates get jacked up (supply/demand).
Obama; one term and out!!!! ;D

I once read somewhere that there is some kind of unofficial agreement where personal attacks are kept to a minimum or reasonable level during elections. If you remember the Kim Campbell Tory campaign ad mocking Jean Chretien's appearance and speech in the early 90's, you'll know that sort of thing doesn't do well with the electorate here.
That said, I really hope you don't end up with Fiorina. Perhaps only in America could someone with her track record have a chance at being governor. Her tenure at Lucent and HP was an unmitigated disaster that almost destroyed both firms.

meh, we're about there, Duster.
the Liberals with "the Tories will bring the army into every city" etc ads from a few years back . . . the Conservatives with "Iggy isn't a real Canadian" ads.
and the "reverse attack ads" -- Smitherman's camp in Toronto saying "Ford's group are insensitive rednecks 'cause they keep bringing up the fact that [Smitherman] is gay" -- even though they didn't.
funny when Albertans are considered progressive [Calgary -- Calgary! -- electing a Muslim mayor and the race was fought and won on who might be better for the job rather than on personality.
I'll wait for the day that happens here.
