Looks like the boys rebounded from their loss on Friday with a solid performance against Manitoba Moose this afternoon. Balej with three assists, Hossa with 1g 1a, Hainsey with one goal and 8 shots, and Gordie Dwyer with 19mins in penalties in what looked like it was a scrappy affair.
SCORING SUMMARY Period 1 (no scoring)
Period 2 Hamilton - Ron Hainsey (powerplay) (Philippe Plante, Jozef Balej) 0:16 Manitoba - Jimmy Roy (Fedor Fedorov, Tomas Mojzis) 2:59

First, two caveats:
1) As most of you know, I am a huge Ron Hainsey fan, and am amongst the minority who think that as soon as Hainsey “gets it” – if he hasn’t already – he has the potential to be a better player than Komisarek. 2) I did not see this game.
(What am I? A freaking lawyer??)
I don’ think we should read too much into Hainsey’s shot totals. From the games I have seen, it appears that Hainsey is the trigger man on the powerplay, meaning that all passes are geared towards eventually freeing Ron up for the shot from the point. Sort of like Sheldon Souray. In penalty-filled contests like this one, Hainsey is going to get a lot of opportunities to shoot. So it is only natural that he gets a high shots on goal count. I wouldn’t read this to mean that he is more “involved”, just that the general Dogs game plan revolved around getting the puck to Hainsey for a shot from the point.
The beautiful thing about Hainsey’s shot, is its accuracy. He has a very Markov-like ability to hit the net. Its not an extremely hard shot, but as Gaston Gingras so beautifully illustrated, being hard and missing the net all the time really aren’t a productive duo. Hainsey doesn’t have an extremely hard shot – not as hard as Komisarek, Souray, or even Rivet, really – but he don’t miss the net often. This is a very, very good thing, but it can be a bit mis-leading.
Nice to see Balej continue to rack up the points, and Marcel Hossa seems to be more active too. I guess they smell Dagenais’ blood in the water…

Extra! Extra! Read all about it. Hossa scores in Dogs' win! This Plante kid seems pretty good. What's the story on him? Well, just checked out hockeydb.com. After six years in the Q he bounced around the IHL, UHL and the WPHL. The latter two are goon leagues rivalling the ECHL. Playing any length of time there means an ability to handle oneself. I don't know what the kids deal is though. He doesn't appear to have been drafted. Did Hamilton sign him to an AHL deal? Does anyone know. Here's the rap sheet: www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php3?pid=29396
