It's one thing to expect assurances against an unsafe/dangerous environment for patrons (faulty equipment)...it's another to make DEMANDS upon a business solely to satisfy one's personal preference where seating comfort is concerned. Don't like a business's tables/chairs/barstools/their 1-ply toilet-paper.....then DON'T GO THERE, dummy!!! if Air Canada needs to make wider seats [or allow two seats to someone who doesn't fit into one] then this is totally . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . pathetic

Rules are rules, man! And if you don't follow them, then suffer the consequences!!! Florida Lifeguard fired after saving drowning man(CNN) -- Tomas Lopez says he never thought getting fired would make him so popular.
Since he was terminated as a lifeguard Monday for disregarding a protected area to save a swimmer, the 21-year-old from Florida said his phone has been ringing off the hook with journalists trying to get his side of the story. He is set to make an appearance on CNN's "Erin Burnett OutFront" Thursday night.
"The reason I was fired is just ridiculous," Lopez told CNN late Wednesday night. "It is a ridiculous rule, really. What was I supposed to do? Just let the guy drown?"
The incident occurred Monday at Hallandale Beach in southern Florida.
Orlando-based Jeff Ellis and Associates, the company Lopez worked for, said lifeguards cannot go beyond the perimeter of the beach they are responsible for overseeing. The rest at: www.cnn.com/2012/07/05/us/florida-lifeguard-fired/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

“I just want to sit down like a normal person,’’...he's got a point. Given the percentage of overweight people in the US, one can defenitly say that these tables are NOT for a normal American. Yet, how many commercials show that percentage? None. Always trim....and usually young, happy, and vibrant. any beer commercial. of course, showing someone dying in the gutter of cirrhosis or a mangled car after drinking and driving isn't going to sell many brews.

They always, very politely, remind us to Please drink responsibly. Not their fault. Ah...the fine-print ad disclaimer that cleanses the corporate conscience...and seems to hold up in a court of law. The car/truck/SUV commercials, too, which show you everything you SHOULDN'T do in your vehicle...ILLEGAL, life-threatening acts.... Professional driver on closed course. Do not attempt. Really? I'm not supposed to fly down a city street, jump open bridges, and do a 180 skid into a parking spot? I'm not supposed to take my SUV down an alpine ski run? ======================================================== Troy-Bilt Wood Chippers should use a scene similar to the one in Fargo. I'm not supposed to take my SUV down an alpine ski run? My friend actually did this. He drove down the ski hill and then put the vehicle in 4-low, to come back up. I was with him and asked him what will he do if he gets stuck. He said ditch the truck, and tell Dodge to come get it ... it was supose to be able to do this kinda stuff (ok, he actually said another s word ... ). It made it up the hill.

"But the cheese was extra!" 'Big guy' sues White Castle over small booths290-pound stockbroker says he can't fit into burger chain's seating Wedging White Castle burgers into his mouth has admittedly never been a problem for a 290-pound stockbroker from New York.
Trying to wedge himself into a seat at his local White Castle, however, has him mad enough to sue.
Martin Kessman, 64, has filed a lawsuit seeking unspecified financial damages against the fast-food chain, claiming that his local White Castle is in violation of the Americans With Disabilities Act because the seating cannot accommodate a customer of his size. A federal lawsuit filed last week claims that in April 2009, Kessman smacked his knee into a metal post while trying to wedge himself into the stationary seating at a White Castle in Nanuet, N.Y., near his home. The rest here: today.msnbc.msn.com/id/44523370/ns/today-today_people/#.TnHrO10v7VYIf White Castle installs a seat that accomodates a 290 lb man, can they be sued by a 600 lb man who still won't fit into the Booth? My fitness club has a lift chair to allow handicapped people to access the pool without the assistance of a club employee. Does this increase their liability if the lift is used and the member falls and drowns? During WWll the government interned JAPS in camps. They were called offensive slurs in official government newsreels. Times change. Today, Jackie Robinson is considered an Uncle Tom for tolerating racial slurs that he had to endure. Lighten up world.

And people used to think that Dungeons and Dragons was addictive. Cripes! ======================================================== Manstabbed over video game By Galen Eagle, QMI Agency PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — A man enraged over the online videogame World of Warcraft allegedly stabbed a neighbour in the chest sending him to hospital. “I was sitting in my house today thinking ‘should I be dead or shouldn’t I?’” said Jordan Osborne, 20, on Thursday, who was hospitalized with a stab wound to his sternum. “And it’s all over a World of Warcraft game.” Osborne alleges he was stabbed when he went to his neighbour's Peterborough, Ont., apartment on Wednesday after hearing an argument. “I was telling him, there is no need for you to be freaking out about World of Warcraft. It’s just a game,” Osborne said, while his neighbour fought with a friend who was visiting and some other players over his headset. “He said, ‘It’s not just a game, it’s my life.’” That’s when the man grabbed his throat, punched him in the face and stabbed him in the chest, Osborne said. “Like they say, it takes over your life, man.” Justin Williams, 21, is charged him with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon, police said. Williams was scheduled to appear in court Thursday. Peterborough is about 125 km northeast of Toronto. cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/WeirdNews/2012/07/12/19979551.html (link)

Reviving an old thread, even though it will undoubtedly be lost in the PK Hysteria today. Florida mom arrested after letting 7-year-old walk to the park alone(CNN) -- After letting her 7-year-old son walk from their home to a park to play, a Florida mother faces up to five years in jail for child neglect. Nicole Gainey, 34, was arrested on July 26 after her son, Dominic, was found by police alone in a park less than a half-mile from her Port St. Lucie home. On Saturday afternoon, Gainey had given Dominic permission to walk to Sportsman's Park, a route he's familiar with since he uses it to ride his bike to school, her lawyer said. On the way, he passed a public pool, and someone asked him where his mother was. "They asked me a couple questions, and I got scared, so I ran off to the park and they called the cops," Dominic Guerrisi told CNN affiliate WPTV. An officer arrived at the park where Dominic was playing a short time later. "Dominic checked in with his mom a few minutes before the police came and was getting ready to go home for dinner," said Gainey's attorney, John Whitehead, founder of the Virginia-based civil liberties group the Rutherford Institute. He always has a cell phone with him and was wearing it in a case around his neck that his mother had made. According to Whitehead, the phone had fallen out of his pocket recently and she didn't want him to lose it. When the officer asked Dominic whether his mother knew where he was, the child told him that she did and he'd just spoken to her on the phone, according to the police report. Dominic told the police his name, address and mother's name but wasn't able to answer when asked for his date of birth. He was then driven home. "When I saw the police cars pull up in my driveway, and the officers started asking me about Dominic, I was frantic to know whether he was OK," Gainey told CNN in an e-mail. According to the report, Gainey told the officer that she let her son go to the park alone once or twice a week. The arresting officer said that Gainey had failed to provide her son with care and supervision by allowing him to cross the street and go to the park alone. According to the report, he told her that there had been recent criminal activity in and around the park and a number of sex offenders lived nearby. Gainey was arrested on a felony child neglect charge and taken to jail, leaving Dominic and her 17-year-old daughter at the house with her boyfriend. She was released seven hours later on $3,750 bond. The Rest

Is it too late to arrest my parents for letting me play up and down the street? I even played in the park half a block away.
Amazingly, cops can arrest a mother....but have a tough time dealing with the sex offenders.
Me thinks that we need a meteor strike to hit re-set......

In the immortal words of Charlie Brown, "good grief."
I friggin' near played in traffic as a kid. Hell, I played STREET hockey on a side street in a subdivision. We used half a dozen blocks in the neighbourhood to play hide and seek. Of course, my mother could hear me a mile away at school, so she could hear me playing outside in the summer lol. I was a loud child lol.

Big brother is watching it all ... damn those geotags!! Soldier’s Geotagged Instagram Selfies Land Russia and Putin in Hot Water
Published on August 1, 2014 by Gannon Burgett
While Russia continues to claim it has no involvement in the civil conflict in Ukraine, the selfie-strewn Instagram profile of Russian soldier Sanya Sotkin may tell a slightly different story. A story which is landing Russian President, Vladimir Putin in even more hot water than he’s already in.
With the unwanted help of the ‘Photomap’ feature in Instagram, the 24-year-old’s Instagram profile shows a number of self-portraits that are geotagged inside the borders of Ukraine. More particularly, inside rebel-controlled territory, some of it dangerously close to the location of where Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 was tragically shot down, killing all 298 people on board.
The rest of the story.

Interesting video someone sent me....
BTW...do NOT think that we are that far behind in Canada. When I was looking at a wind turbine project, I was stunned to find that there are a number of "associations" that have tremendous power. Where they got it from is a mystery, but they can certainly claim that you need their approval to get a project done......or fight them in court for years and way too much money.
Then there is the other issue of Ontario government ever increasing rules on farmers and land owners. Much like Washington State, it doesn't take too much convincing of Ontario Liberal government to "protect the environment". All you need is "save the BingyBingy worm" interest group and some support from the big mouth foundations, next thing you know, you can't do anything on your property. It doesn't have to be any well recognized eco threat of huge study, an "opinion" from a self described expert is enough to get the ball rolling. Right now, it's far easier to pile on "eco" restrictions then spend enormous amount of money fighting to lift them.
Sure, I'm all for putting the next Love Canal a-holes in jail for 30 years, heck, I'd buy the rope to hang them, but under the "we love our planet" and "the sky is falling" hypochondria, environmental nutties are stripping away land rights so fast, you'd be shocked at the amount of regulations in certain parts of Ontario.

There is nothing funnier the having opposing eco groups fighting for hierarchy! They get together and argue on who is more important for saving the planet....until BIG greenwash money comes along and makes their decision for them.
Make no mistake, greenwash money is as big as it gets. Some of it is from the very people who are behind big oil.

Seriously. Whether the cyclists were at fault or not is almost irrelevant. One is dead, the other left with serious physical and mental injuries. Accept that they have been punished enough, if they even deserved to be punished. I'm sure the driver has and is suffering a tremendous amount of emotional trauma herself, but for Christ sake...
