Flipping around...stopped on TSN just in time to see several Roughrider fans proudly holding up stuffed green frogs with nooses around their necks.
French-Canadian slurs alive and unwell in Canada.
Unbelievable. Is that freedom of expression......doesn't that incite hate?

Yeah I saw that too, but didn't put it together at the time. I was more thinking why are they carrying stuffed animals around... Guess there will always be people like that in the world. Don't let two people make you think all of Canada is like that.

I don't....but I also know that it's not limited to two people.

Troy Westwood said something a while back - referring to the Riders/Bombers game as the Banjo Bowl. I guess he wasn't far wrong.

Great game. Not quite Etcheverry, Paterson, O'Quinn, Trawick, Hugo and Hunsinger, but a great victory! Enjoyed it immensely.

I guess TSN was leaving the Montreal angle to RDS....because that was a pretty pro-Rider broadcast.....
It wasn't until the last play that the terms "dynasty" and "best team of the decade" came out.
Before that, it was mostly about the Riders being the "hard luck" team...."denied" last year....etc.
You could almost feel them bleeding for a Rider win.

When he got hurt this year against Winnipeg....he was in the hospital for a few days...and they found something in this throat. Shared the news only with his wife and close friends.
It's a large thyroid lesion....not sure what it is....worried about cancer, obviously.
Half of his thyroid has to be removed....but 3 specialists said that it could wait til after the season.
Going to California for a week with his family....then going for surgery.
Considering that.....what a remarkable performance by AC!!! To put that behind him to help his team to a Grey Cup. Phenomenal. Emotions got the best of him, and he just couldn't hold it in any longer.
Not many would wait for that procedure no matter how many specialists said it was okay to wait.
That was back in mid-August. Imagine keeping it a secret for 3 months...let alone having the focus to lead your team to a Grey Cup in the process?

I didn't have a lot of confidence in Duval from the time he missed that 31 yarder in the 1st quarter. I just had a bad feeling that his misses would come back to haunt them. Fortunately they played through it. After those five Cup losses the redemption of the last 2 years feels great.

He & his wife have been through a lot in the last 3 years. I was wondering why he was so emotional after the Argos game last week. Wow - how do you retain your focus with something like that in the back of your mind?

Congrats to AC and the Als. Despite another shaky Grey Cup game by Duval, the boys pulled through. There were not many of us cheering on the Als in the stands, but my voice today tells me that some pretty good cheering was done!!
The atmosphere and noise in the building was just amazing.
Amazing 2010 Grey Cup fact: the 50-50 draw prize was over $127,000. Alas, it was not my ticket.

I once watched a CFL game live. Once. A long time ago. I could of watched it a second time but chose to give those free tickets to my granny along with $200 for beer. She said she needed the beer to help her imagine herself under those piles.

Unbelievable. Is that freedom of expression......doesn't that incite hate? There are so many real problems in the world that football fans holding up stuffed frogs or pre-teen girls with Justin Beber dolls (whoever that is) or frenchmen calling english blokes or Don Cherry calling Sweedes chicken doesn't rise to the outrage of: North Korea vs South Korea Sunni vs Sheite Muslim cleric vs women Iraq vs Iran etc etc etc. It's a long way from UCLA fans vs USC fans calling names to planting bombs in crowded public places. If we can release our tensions at relatively peaceful sporting events over a couple of $9 beers with painted faces, it ain't the end of the world.

It's a highly entertaining game and AC is one of the best CFL quarterbacks of all time. Now I want the 3-peat. You have to got back to the Edmonton dynasty of 1978-82 (the Warren Moon years) to find the last time a team won at least 3 straight Grey Cups (the Esks won 5 straight). The Als have been the best organization in the league for the past 10 years, but a lack of success in the big game was troubling. Before last year's win they were 1-5 in the title game. Ouch. With the back-to-backs they have pretty much buried those ghosts but there's no reason why a healthy Anthony Calvillo (hopefully) and the rest of the supporting cast shouldn't be favored to win the East again next year. Totally agree on Duval....shaky indeed.

Mostly limited to the web, but the local sports network NESN will actually air the occasional game and the conference finals and Grey Cup.

Totally agree on Duval....shaky indeed. The CFL died with me when the Ottawa Rough Riders folded. The Als have dominated the league in the last few years. I was hoping for Saskatchewan, but I'm actually quite happy for AC. But I hear something quite distressing on TSN this morning. Here's a cut and paste from their website: The talk of the city had been quarterback Anthony Calvillo's post-game admission that he had a lesion on his thyroid gland that would need surgery, but he said that whether it is found to be cancerous or not, doctors have assured him he will be able to return to try for a third straight Cup next season. He and his family have been through a lot so far. Have to wish him well with that. Cheers.

AC will be an "automatic" for the Hall of Fame the day he retires.
Bravo!
