Good for the Russians. They looked down and out in the second half as fatigue sank in from their late game last night and Sweden finally woke up. That non-call goal was bad, but the Swedes did seem to give up despite the linesman screaming "no, no, no". I figured Sweden had it after that late PP goal, but again, a little loosey goosey in their own end and inability to clear a puck...and tie game.
Half an hour to puck drop in the second semi. Fridge is full and Canada jersey is donned. Ready to go!!

like that Louis shot the puck -- can AK and Gomer learn from him? Question for you Franko and the rest. Is it too early to call up Louis after the WJHC ? I personally can see him on the second or third line and on the PP. He definitely has talent and puck smarts. I can name 4 or 5 guys that he can replace right now. Just a thought. Other teams seem to do it, except for the Habs. I would leave him be with a very good CHL team this season, as their season should be nice and long. He can then also get stronger as he will need that once he makes the big jump. I expect he will get his feet wet in the AHL next season and we shall see from there what team he finishes next season with.

Good start for Canada, up 2-0. Louis not having any impact at this point. Nice to see Brett Connolly playing well as he hasn't been a contributor yet, and he's skating well and made an awesome saucer pass to Howden for the 2nd goal. Canada is getting more quality chances than the Americans, quite a few more. If Kassian had just been better with his hands on that 4 on 2, it should be 3-0. If Canada can get it to three goals up, I think the Americans will fold.

Keep it up.

How about that stat? The American team, playing in the U.S.A, has taken only 5 penalties this whole tournament.
Make that 6. Coyle just got a highsticking call.
Make that 7. Hooking. 1:35 5-on-3 for Canada.

Campbell getting the job done so far on the PK.
EDIT: I said "so far". Now 3-0...and Canada still on the PP.
Better be disciplined as the refs'll be looking for red sweaters now.

Campbell doing all he can. Two big saves.
EDIT: Canada really pouring it on. Campbell is keeping it respectable. Could easily be 5-0 by now.
EDIT: Can't ask for a better 40-minute effort.

Incredible first 40. Campbell the only reason this game is not over and done with.
Glad to see Visentin answering the call and looking really solid. He is showing his first round pedigree right now.
The Canadian defense is also playing its best game by far. They are boxing out the US and totally neutralizing the US speed with fast sticks and good body position. Time and space, time and space...Canada is not yielding much to the US.
In a short tourney, you want to see a team getting better each game. The boys in red and white are doing just that.
One more solid period boys!!

4-1 final. Very solid all around game by Canada. The thing I liked best was that Visentin came to play. They're a good team with iffy goaltending, they're a very good team with solid goaltending. If Visentin has the same game as today, Russia will not be an obstacle.

I forgot to mention. Couturier had an excellent game, even though he didn't get a lot of ice time. He controlled the puck on the boards really well and didn't panic at any time. It's hard to find a player who didn't at least play their heart out, even if they may not have gotten any results. Ashton was another guy (who I criticized heartily, earlier because he looked like a slug) who played extremely well. He must have been wearing skates 3 sizes too large before, because today he blew by some pretty good skating Americans. A ton of speed. Nice to see. I like him now.

Really all round solid win. Every player did his part tonight, and the result showed that effort.
Glad to see the goaltending show up tonight. Full marks to Visentin to shake of the rust of his two earlier starts.
All those big body WHL kids showed tonight why they were selected to play against a big, fast American team.
Great result from a phenominal effort. Darn is this great hockey to watch!!

Complete effort at both ends of the ice. Owned the US the whole game. Took away their speed, and showed some of their own. In particular, I thought our defense looked better than it has all tournament.
Nice to exact some revenge tonight. Now time to take out the sneaky Russians.

Time and space, time and space...Canada is not yielding much to the US Would like to know who the Canadian defensive coach is and have Gauthier offer him a contract. No one was getting by these guys. Stick checks, great positional play, et al. Totally out-hustled the USA. The desire, the drive. It also doesn't hurt when the juniors are getting text messages from Crosby and pep talks from Yzerman. Incredible support. Now it's the Russians and they might be on a mission given the last Olympic result against Canada. No easy game by any means. They can do it but they'll need the same team effort they had against the USA. Cheers. Oh yeah ... Sweden ... nice to know how Canadian hockey is viewed in that country, eh? That young kid they were interviewing after the game was only taking his lead from his coach. What did Mr Miagi say, "No such ting bad student ... only bad teacha ..."

Every player played his heart out. These guys are a team, not a roster of millionaires picking up paychecks and trying to avoid injuries. They don't have kids in school, pensions, mortgages and endorsements to think about. "Win baby, win" Great hockey!

It started with Lander before the tourney saying Canada wasn't the team to beat (he was right, the US were the better team of paper and before last night's puck drop), then the coach saying that the Czechs and Russians gave them a harder fight than Canada, and now with emotional Lehner whining that the icing non-call would not have happened if Canada was playing. WTF? Stick a mike at one of them, and there is some Canada dissing bound to happen. If the US beat them tomorrow, I can hardly wait for their new post-game nuggets. Get the soothers ready.

Lucky duck. I find out later this week if I get picked in the lottery for the Edmonton games. A friend of mine bought Hitmen season tickets this year just so he could get them. I was going to do the same with the Oil Kings. Tough year for the Hitmen after all those really solid years. Every year so far has been a tough one for the Oil Kings.

WTF? Stick a mike at one of them, and there is some Canada dissing bound to happen. If the US beat them tomorrow, I can hardly wait for their new post-game nuggets. Get the soothers ready. I think this has been around for a while now, NWT. I can't remember the Swedish coach, but a few years back this guy would trash Canadian hockey every chance he got. Going back to the late 50's, early 60's in Sweden. Carl Jackson is a First Nations, former Canadian pro hockey player who played most of his pro/semi-pro career in Sweden. Now, I haven't been able to find him in the hockey data bases, but he showed me his championship ring from back in the day when his club won the Swedish championship. "It's the only thing I have left." Anyway, Carl works at Glen Lawrence Golf Club here in the greater Kingston area. He's one of the course marshals and he likes talking about his Swedish hockey experiences. One such experience he told me about was when a big, tough Swedish opponent started trashing his name all around the league. "Effin' Canadian" or, "I'll get that Canadian &^%$#@*!! if it's the last thing I do!" So, Carl hears this and decides to do something about it on his very first shift. He told me as soon as he got on the ice he staked directly over to the opposition bench and dove right into him. I guess he cut him up pretty badly. The guy didn't know what hit him and Carl basically told him to keep his mouth shut or he could expect more of the same. Carl was ejected from the game, but the guy never lipped off again. So, I suspect this anti-Canadian thing has been around to varying degrees for quite a while. Oh yeah, Carl also told me a lot more, but I can't post it here on the boards. Suffice to say that he had a great time in Sweden. Cheers.

These tourneys are great, they create a lot of excitement in otherwise long season. Host city must be major cash cow for them also. Should probably be more of these types, maybe a World Cup every year, every year there is no Olympics for sure. Host a World Cup in Hamilton or Regina, Winnipeg, Quebec City as host, sold out every game. Big hockey fans in these cities and they don't get chance to see NHL caliber players very often. Major tv ratings also.
On a comical sidenote, my 6 year-old grandson stands at attention and sings along with O' Canada anthem. Then he replays the game out in my living room, slapping a plastic puck across the floor. My chairs are goalposts. lol. I hide my breakables before game time

US beat the Swedes 4-2 to win Bronze. Congrats to them.
Referees for tonight's gold medal game are Martin Frano of CZE and Keith Kaval of USA. Hopefully they will not penalize good solid bodychecks, as I expect that will be a big part of Canada's game plan tonight.
Our boys are in red tonight (as will be most of the folks in the HSBC stands and in Canadian living rooms from coast to coast to coast).
Go Canada Go!!

1-0 Canada on the PP. Ellis one timer on a fantastic cross slot pass from Schenn.
I think Schenn may be the best passer I've seen at the WJC in some time. Kings brass have to be licking their chops at thought of Schenn setting up Kopitar.

Canada makes it 2-0 on Carter Ashton's first of the tournery. Came from very hard forechecking, and dominating down low.
There was about a 5 min stretch where Canada got a little lax and the Russians had some very good scoring chances. The last two mins or so of the period saw Canada get refocused - lead by a huge hit from Kassian.

Schenn, with his second point of the game to tie McCourt for most points in a tourney, scores to make it 3-0.
Another goal from big body forechecking. Schenn first on the scene, then Foligno and their linemate work along the halfwall to get the puck cross crease to Schenn for the one time shot.
So far, going to script. Playing a big body game with speed. Wearing down the Russian D just like they did the US. It really is 4 lines of fury. All responsible, protecting the puck. All tenacious.

Epic third period collapse. Biggest in World Jr. history, so I heard.
The Canadians sat back....something they didn't do against the U.S.....and Visentin couldn't make one big save.
Good on the Russians for capitalizing on it.
When I saw Schenn grab at his Team Canada logo after he scored to make it 3-0, I thought, "Too early for that cocky stuff!"
Russia changed goalies after that goal....and the rest is history indeed.
Congrats to the Russians for 3 straight comeback games to win the gold.
