I found this french article on another site... Kast left his team to join the club of Minsk... he could play for his national team for the upcoming World tournament...
Is it too late to offer him a contract??

Kasty seemed to be doing quite well in his "regular" stints with CSKA-2 and was on a solid and consistent points per game tear against players his own age. His ice time was really limited with CSKA, so his lack of production there isn't all that surprising. Not sure if all this moving around really is the best for his development. I would be surprised if management doesn't make a serious bid to sign him over the summer and at least get him into the system here: Montreal-Hamilton. Let him loose on the AHL with its older players and see how he does in the NA style of game. Then, if he earns it, give him his call up chances like Gainey and Savard have managed with Higgins, Pleks and Balej this season.

Couldn't agree more, its time for the Habs to take control of his development.

Couldn't agree more, its time for the Habs to take control of his development. He's got to be running out of teams to leave. He's played for more teams than Henri Richard did in his entire career. I'm ready for a Kastitsyn trade to NY for Balej, or to Washington or Buffalo for a first round pick in 2005.

If so I doubt you would be suggesting a trade of any sort.

It looks like Yunost Minsk has won the Belarus Championship Final in 3 games over Keramin/Minsk. I am unable to tell if Kastsitsyn played in any of the 10 playoff games for Yunost since he left CSKA. If anyone has any further info, I'd love to hear about it. If anyone knows someone who can translate the Belarus IHF website and post some info it would be appreciated. www.bihf.org

some updated Kasts info that I researched...... From reading almost gibberish translations on www.pressball.by, the site does provide boxscores a few days after the fact. Here is what I can piece together on Kastsitsyn: (Kostitsyn in the translated articles of his home country.) In all he played in 6 playoff games for Yunost Minsk while scoring 8 points. (4 G, 4 A, 14 PIM). Kastsitsyn joins Younst Minisk for Game #3 of the Belarus Championship Semi - Final matchup versus HK Gomel. Best of 5 series tied 1-1. March 16, 2003 Game #3 HK Gomel 3 Yunost Minsk 0 (Gomel leads best of 5 semi final 2:1) Kastsitsyn's first game with Yunost Minisk since leaving CSKA. No points but 4 PIM. Kastsityn's brother plays on HK Gomel. March 17, 2003 Game #4 Yunost Minsk 5 HK Gomel 1 (Best of 5 semi final 2:2) Kastsitsyn is 1st star, recording 2 goals, 1 assist and 4 PIM. March 19, 2004 Game #5 Yunost Minsk 5 HK Gomel 4 (Yunost Minsk wins best of 5 semi final 3:2) Kastsitsyn is 1st star again recording 1 goal and 3 assists. Minsk was behind 4:1 in the 3rd period. March 22, 2004 Game #1 Belarus Championship Final Yunost Minsk 4 Keramin 3 (Yunost Minsk leads best of 5 finals 1:0) No points. March 23, 2004 Game # 2 Belarus Championship Final Yunost Minsk 2 Keramin 0 (Yunost Minsk leads best of 5 finals 2:0) No points, 4 PIM. March 26, 2004 Game #3 Belarus Championship Final Yunost Minsk 2 Keramin 1 (Yunost Minsk wins best of 5 finals 3:0) Kastsitsyn is 2nd star, recording 1 goal and 2 PIM. Eventually, his total stats will be posted for his time in the Belarus Championship League. Hopefully, my #'s match what I could decipher. Bossy22

Thanks Mike. Looks like the young man comes through when the chips are on the line. And when Kasty plays nasty, he's better.

Impressive stuff, I must say. Nasty Kasty joins his hometown team in the semis, has two big games in which he is #1 star and leads them to victory in the series. He then helps his team to their league championship. Pretty good for a 19 year old joining a men's team and with no previous playing experience or chemistry with his teammates. Big time clutch performance and at the men's league level.
p.s. Mr Gainey, I sure would like to see what this kid could do with top line ice time in Hamilton next season. This young man needs to spend a whole season in a stable environment for a change, he will only get better under that environment.
