I haven't bought a music CD in years, but I heard this one over the holidays at my neighbour's place. Simply outstanding music! You can listen to the album online here: www.santana.com/guitarheaven/What I liked the most about this CD is just how much a win it is right across the board for a lot of people. First, it's a remake album so each of these artists had to have been approached by Santana for permission. Secondly, they not only get a cut of revenues, but they get the honour of having their music performed by Santana. Thirdly, while I recognize a few of the vocalists he brought in, Santana also promotes a few vocalists I've never heard of before, and they very well. I also like the way Santana makes each song his own. In addition to outstanding guitar reefs, he includes a Hispanic influence to the drumming (well, that's the way I describe it anyway). Check it out when you have the time. If you want to listen to some of the music while you're at work, access the "audio" tab on top of the page, but make sure your volume is low. It can get pretty heavy. Cheers.

Wow....that's fantastic performance and production. Santana's been a world-class, signature-style player forever....and he's lost none of his chops....in fact, he's likely better than he's ever been, as you should keep improving. I'm picking that one up. Thanks, Dis. You're very close with "Hispanic" drumming. I've always known/heard it as "Latin drumming". I just watched part of a clip on YouTube. What North Americans call "Latin" is really rhythm patterns from two different styles. Afro-Cuban and Brazilian. Lots of fun stuff. This instructional clip is very good for experienced drummers looking to add something new to their repertoire. (Very boring, if you're not a drummer, I imagine. ) When we were in Cuba a couple of years ago, watching the poly-rhythmic drumming blew me away.

Thanks CH. I got it for $15 bucks while I was surfing around Future Shop for a small music system.
I think the term I was looking for, but only thought of after, was "Latin-American." However, your references are much more accurate I think.
The CD just pulled me in right from the first song. The fifth song, Can't Photograph (Def Leppard) features Chris Daughtry. My neighbour pointed out that this is a young man who was a contestant on American Idol. You see, I like this about the CD. Santana is not only keeping the classics alive, but he's also promoting more talent.
I recognized, you know, Rob Thomas and Joe Cocker, but I had to look up to see who Daughtry, Jonny Lange and a few other vocalists were.
Excellent music!
Cheers.
Edit: I'm on the website now watching the video to "While My Guitar Gentley Weeps." They pretty much nailed that too. The guitar reefs have Santana written all over it.

From one of the clips:
"... because I'm a visual person. You know? I close my eyes and I actually see the music."

Gotta say, Dis....your thread title startled me first time I saw it. Carlos Sanata - Guitar Heaven I thought he'd passed away!
