Dogs won 3-0 (Plekanec, Gratton and Ferland the goal scorers). Danis made 22 saves to record his first win in the pro Now we can have threads about trading Theodore AND Garon next summer

Don't trade Theo or Garon yet! I was at the Dogs' game today (I happened to be in T.O. with my wife for the afternoon so we decided to take in the game). Danis played ok, but he looked shakey at times (as would be expected in his pro debut). I thought it was going to be a long afternoon when he misplayed the first shot at him. On a clear slap shot from the point he dropped to his knees, put his glove up to catch the shot, and watched it zing over his glove and off the post! Later in the game he had a shot carom off the inside of his leg and change direction, just missing the net and going wide.
Danis looked pretty small out there (his Brown bio lists him at 6-0; I wonder if that's with skates on!). He played well enough for the shutout, but the team in front of him should get most of the credit. They kept the Roadrunners away from the net pretty well. He did control most rebounds well, although he did kick one or two directly into the slot. Thankfully the Dogs' defence was there to clear those.

45 shots for the Bulldogs, as they peppered Tyler Moss.
Perezoghin with 7 shots, Plekanec with 6, Hainsey with 5. I love seeing Perezhoghin being involved like this, though its been a while since I watched or listened to a Dogs game. Hope he looks as involved in "real life" as he does on the stats sheet.
JP Cote was +1, moving his season totals up to +23. The few times I saw him play, I was impressed. I wonder if there are any plans to sign him away from Hamilton, and get him officially into the Habs organization?
From the AHL web site:
Danis pitches shutout in pro debut
2004 Hobey Baker Award finalist Yann Danis stopped 22 shots to earn a shutout in his professional debut, helping Hamilton to a 3-0 win over Toronto on Sunday evening.
Danis, 22, joined the Bulldogs on a tryout contract after signing with the Montreal Canadiens last week. His collegiate career at Brown University ended in the ECAC conference tournament on Mar. 22.
Danis played four seasons for the Brown Bears, earning numerous awards during his career. In 2003-04, Danis appeared in 30 of Brown's 31 games, posting a 15-11-4 record with a 1.81 goals against average (third in the country), to go along with a .942 save percentage (second in the nation).
The 2004 Ivy League Player of the Year helped lead Brown to back-to-back winning seasons (15-11-5) for the first time since 1995. Danis holds several school and ECAC records, including career shutouts (13), shutouts in a season (5), goals against average in a season (1.81), save percentage in a season (.942), career wins (43), career save percentage (.930), and career goals against average (2.20).
Jonathan Ferland, Tomas Plekanec and Benoit Gratton scored for the Bulldogs on Sunday, as Hamilton salvaged its final meeting of the season with the Roadrunners. Toronto finished with a 8-2-1-1 mark against its southern Ontario neighbors on the year.

I know the Roadrunners are a much improved team now compared to how they were through the first half of the season, but boy did the Dogs squander a lot of points to this franchise this season. In 12 games, with a possible 24 points up for grabs, only 6 were generated with a 2-8-1-1 record. So, if Danis can get their number early in his career, then this signing has already paid dividends galore.

And Michaud...and Damphousse...and not re-signing Fichaud. Ahem. Go Dogs. Can we bring him up for the playoffs like we did with Dryden and Vachon? I don't think Theo is too concerned about losing his spot because his father has made it 20-1 that Theo starts ahead of Danis.

Actually the Dogs assigned Michaud to Columbus on Monday, so they look to be riding the Damphousse - Danis tandem into the playoffs at this point. Fichaud is out for the season after surgery.

Danis was the top goalie in the ECAC. Maybe he was nervous, but getting a shutout has to mean something. He wasn't bombed or anything.

His numbers took a hit towards the end of the season, but his team scored 1 goal in 3 games at the end (lost back to back 4-0 games, which hurt his gaa and save % which still ended up being 2nd and 3rd or so overall) Danis had the 3rd best career save % in the history of the NCAA.
