Top 3, baby... www.usatoday.com/sports/college/hockey/2004-04-01-hobey-baker-finalists_x.htmParise, Lessard, Danis dubbed Hobey Baker finalists[/b] MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota-Duluth's Junior Lessard, North Dakota's Zach Parise and Brown's Yann Danis have won spots as the three finalists for the Hobey Baker award, given to college hockey's top player. The winner will be announced April 9 during the Frozen Four in Boston. The shortened list of candidates was released Tuesday. Lessard, the WCHA Player of the Year, has helped the Bulldogs advance to the Frozen Four for the first time in 11 years. The senior forward from Canada leads the nation with 61 points and in goals with 30. Danis, also a Canadian senior, set a school record with a .930 career save percentage, second best in NCAA history to Ken Dryden. The ECAC Player of the Year holds conference records for season save percentage (.948) and career shutouts (13). Parise, a sophomore from Faribault, Minn., is the only returning Hobey Baker finalist. He ranks third in the NCAA in points (55), second with an average of 1.49 points per game and third in assists (32). He took time off this season to compete for the United States in the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships, where he was honored as tournament MVP.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Habs go after Lessard. It would add depth on the right side and helpt to offset the loss of Balej, although he is almost 2 years older than Balej. The fact that he is a Quebec native might give the club some leverage.

The fact that he is a Quebec native might give the club some leverage. I've seen him a few times lately, and while he's not the strongest guy, he's got good hands. He didn't have any points in the big win over UMinn, but he was really involved in the game, made some great passes, and even won a battle along the boards against the much bigger Vanek. I'll watch his next game as it should be a good one.
