The 21 year old was signed to his first NHL contract after getting a year audition with the Dogs and Nailers last season on an AHL contract. He was a second round pick of the Avs in 2008, but they did not sign him last summer and the Habs invited him out to their camp as a try out. He is from Bedford NS and played in the Q, including stints with the Moosehead and Maineiacs (who are now officially no more). Given how inconsistently Robert Mayer played last year in Hamilton, this is not a surprising move. I would guess Delmas gets the nudge as the back up in Hamilton. Wonder who #1 will be. Drew MacIntyre would be great. He carried the team after Sanford's injury last season. That would make a nice Atlantic Canada duo in net for the Dogs!! canadiens.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=568494&navid=DL|MTL|home

I hope MacIntyre is re-signed. He was very solid for the 'Dogs last year. Edit- Habs now signed Nathan Lawson to a two-way contract. Wonder if that's the end of the road for MacIntyre in Hamilton now? canadiens.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=568595

With the Nathan Lawson/ Peter Delmas combo i'm hoping their won't be a drop off on the goalie front. They play a normally tight defensive game in Hamilton which makes our goalie stand out(unless your name is Mayer). I expect a very good team........ they seem to have a good mixture of talent, experience and toughness. My try at the roster, which is a little pre mature Palushaj - Trotter - Avstin Blunden - Leblanc - Wilsie Conboy - Engvist - Dumont Fortier - Nattinen - Schultz Ex : Masse, Bishop, Berger Henry - Diaz Mitera- St.Denis Nash- Stejskal ( alittle weak defensively with this pairing....... perhaps another veteran would need to be signed? ?) Lawson Delmas

JJ, they also have Leblanc's Montreal Junior teammate Lefebvre joining the Dogs/Nailers on offense as his junior career is over too. They seem set on depth up front.
As you mention (and I wrote recently in another thread), the team defense is not deep at all. I expect a couple of guys to be added, likely on AHL contracts as they have done the last few years. They got some decent hockey out of Petruic, and to a lesser extent, Bisaillon through this approach last season. What aggravates this lack of defensive depth in Hamilton is that with only six guys signed in Montreal (seven once they get the Gorges deal done within the next few days), then that list of six above is only one injury from someone having to be called up to Montreal. I expect one more depth guy in Montreal before training camp, and some depth guys (Petruic and McFadden would work nicely) on AHL contracts for the farm.
I am glad they have dropped Mayer down to the ECHL, as he is consitently inconsistent. Like you mention, the Lawson/Delmas combo is a bit more of a question mark after the stellar goaltending that the Dogs have enjoyed over the past two seasons, but Lawson has some pretty darn impressive numbers and I don't see as a big a drop off once he learns his new system and learns how to work with his new defensemen.
Looks like a pretty good team to me as well, and still likely one of the younger AHL teams as a lot of that team are either first or second year pros.

Looking forward to seeing Leblanc in the lineup next year.

Well seems you are right.... the Bulldogs have signed defenceman Zack FitzGerald to a one-year, one-way American Hockey League contract. www.hamiltonbulldogs.com/article/bulldogs-sign-defenceman-zack-fitzgerald-to-a-one-year-contract
