Heat wave coming through Eastern and Southeastern Ontario. Will be the hottest day of the year here in K-town with a humidex in the mid-40's.
I don't have any air ducts in my house so I'm using oscillating fans. However, I do have a pool and will be lounging around there with a giant freezy in one hand and a cool drink in the other.
It's brutal here at work; however I was lucky enough to snag an air-conditioned classroom to teach from today.
How's everyone coping with this heat?
Cheers.

I ran away from it, albeit accidentally. 3 days of ~19 degree weather coming up. just hoping for a little sun so I can sit out a bit.

I try to head out for a few minutes each day so I'm not trapped in a freezing AC-induced house all day. Alas, I need to sit by the phone and wait for tech support to phone me back :.

AC all-the-way...home, office, vehicles....add to that a lovely pool and I'm all set. We'll be giggling at this thread in a few short months.

Right on, CO. I tried to enjoy the heat yesterday, as I don't forget our winters....and lack of summers the past few years. Sat out on the deck with a vodka & soda and put some Latin music on the satellite. Closed my eyes.....could almost imagine Cuba/Jamaica. Lasted as long as my drink did....then went inside to the AC. Might try it again around 5:00 today. (Good excuse to have a drink if nothing else.)

My harem simply bl.....err.....fans me.
I don't want to turn this into a sky falling thread but I do want to make one comment. If we did not have our coal fired plants, which were running at capacity, supplying about a 5th of our energy, we would be in DEEP doodoo. We would all be talking about rolling blackouts, brownouts AND counting body. Inconvenient truth......

Air conditioned home, office and car. Bring it on! Week off.... It's 32 in the plant and IMPOSSIBLE to work near any heat generating equipment.

BTW....
The hottest temperature I ever felt was in the Phoenix, Arizona in August. They said it was 109 (43c) in the shade. I didn't realize how hot that was until I left the rental in the sun and then got in, touched the black steering wheel and left a red mark on palms. Thankfully, those guys sold two liter "big gulp" drinks everywhere for 29 cents (back in '95).

pfffffftttttttt .... heat wave, shmeat wave
The hottest day here so far has been 22C and that was only for about 2 hours before it cooled down again. The other day I saw someone in one of those 3in1 Columbia jackets, with the fleece lining!!! .... most nights here you have to wear a hoodie if you want to go out around.
I've been getting all kinds of looks this summer, since I am wearing shorts most days in spite of the cool weather .... if I had a dollar for every time someone asks "you must be frozen, are you"
Newfoundland even gets screwed out of the so-called global warming ... average temp in June-July has been about 15C

If you were a days ride, I would take my bike out there and explore the island. Heck, if you were that close I would also explore the idea of putting up wind turbines. Back in the days were I was so busy I couldn't find employees, I was inches away from getting serious about starting manufacturing there. Then came China......*sigh*

July 1995, in Phoenix, 119 degrees [they even made t-shirts -- it was, at the time, a record high, don't know if it's been broken]. was there leading a contingent of teens from Ontario to a conference. so bot day, teens hot, they decided to go BAREFOOT and because the sidewalks were crowded they walked on the street -- the pavement -- the ASPHALT! yup, we wound up carrying a bunch of them to the conference nurse.

No wonder we westerners get annoyed with the Centre of the Universe mentality. We haven't had summer yet out here. I think we've had two, maybe three days above 30 so far this year. Lots of rain, and I mean lots. Why can't we share this climate more equitably?
PS, I know what it's like when you get 35+ many days in a row, so I feel for you guys. Last time we had that here a forest fire burned a small outlying part of the town.
Bottoms up.

I remember getting two summers, back to back, where it did nothing but rain every other day. And, coincidentally, we had just put the new pool in. It's been stupid hot. The humidex in Kingston was as high as 47 yesterday and that's just not healthy. More so when you're in a classroom with an air conditioner that might be suitable for a bachelor pad. If it's rainy out your way I'll bet Mother Nature will balance it out if not now then later. That's the way I rationalize it anyway. Open fire bans have been in place for two/three weeks now. This includes all forms outdoor kilns, chiminai etc. Cheers.

Over the past 20 yrs there have only been 7 days prior to this year with single digit temperatures in the month of July ... this year, on July 14th in was 7C here (the second lowest July temp over that span)!!! And I am sure there were more days that week in the single digits too .... it sure felt like it

Mrs Dis is out of town and Dis Jr is out at his girlfriend's place, so I'm out both Saturday and Sunday. Took a couple of lessons this year. My drive has improved quite a bit. At first I wasn't getting the distance, but I was hitting the fairway; 16 of 18 the first time I went out after my lessons. I've added some distance since, though. I'm hitting the fairways, but the percentage is down a tad. However, I've had a couple of drives over the past few weeks in the 240-260-ish range Now, if I could get my second shots in more consistently I'd be where I'd like Cheers.

It would be fairly nice.....then rain almost every weekend. Only farmers enjoyed that. Our son's wedding in 09 had the single best Saturday, weather-wise, for weeks around it....and that was at the end of June. This year has been consistently warm/hot. Reminds me of the many summers on the farm in my teenage days. Summers were always like this one, it seemed. Move that irrigation pipe, boys.

Your game sound slike my game Dis .... I hit my 3 wood consistenly straight about 220-250 yards. I hit my driver about 280-90 when I hit it straight, but usually end up in the rough. Those irons though ... man oh man ... I have a wicked pull/draw/hook on them and can't seem to get a GiR to save my life. Thankfully, my wedge and putting game keep me in the mid 80s.

I was down to a 9 handicap end of last season. This year haven't gotten out enough as we welcomed our first born. Priorities have changed so I'm lucky to get out at all.

If you're shooting in the mid-80's consistently then you're doing alright there, Skilly. I've shot in the high-70's about half-a-dozen times on a local executive course (par 62 IIRC) and it has a whack of par-3's. However, when I get on a regular course I'm in the low-90's. Last week was a 91 and I was fine with that because I'm basically a bogie-golfer. Anything less than a bogie is gravy for me. My driving is coming around but, like you, my short game is good. Putting could be better, but when I'm in the low-90's it's easier to take. I shot an 87 last year on my home course, Amherstview, and that's the best I've been able to do there. The humidity broke today but it's still damn hot here. Tee on time for 7 AM tomorrow. Beer and cigars to follow. Then I have the rest of my day for ... yes ... Saturday things like chores. Cheers.

If it was the same summer then I'm not suprised. I guess it had "cooled off" by August. I picked up my infrared thermometer from work yesterday and took some readings. Red brick wall was 49C, pavement was 58c and that was with some decent breeze. At 58C or 136F in the mid 30's then I would guess it's more like 70C if it's in the mid 40's. That's scorching hot and I'm surprised they didn't land up on wheel chairs. I know I let out a nice big loud F*** when I touched that steering wheel. I remember coming out of the a/c airport and getting a blast of heat that surprised me even though I've experience 40's in Greece. Mind you, in Greece, back then, there was no such thing as a/c unless you stayed in first class hotels, so heat was always there and differentiated by "hot and hotter". In Phoenix it was a constant sprint between a/c shelters. One thing that caught my eye....I never seen water canals that big and I wondered how much of that water made it across any distance before it evaporated.

Heat schmeat, what are you doing to stay warm!?
Us east coasters returned to the usual spring filled with 2 months of rain lol. Summer's been okay, but not all that hot. As I type though, ambient outside is 28 and feels like 37. I guess I should be excited lol.
