Welcome to our newest signed member of the organization. One down, one to go (Andre Deveaux). Lambert had a great season in PEI, so this is a good signing. www.cyberpresse.ca/sports/article/5,724,0,062004,698717.shtml

Something along the lines of 6'2" 200.
I'm glad he was signed.

I think there's a mistake in that article; if Deveaux isn't signed we don't automatically lose him, we only lose him if he's actually drafted elsewhere. Unless for some reason he's a UFA, that sometimes happens and I haven't figured out why yet :-\

Just as long as he isn't smart like streetcar.

From there either he gets picked in the draft, or he becomes a FA and can go back as an overager to Owen Sound. It looks as though he's not signed, so he's all but gone, unless we redraft him but that rarely happens and doesn't seem likely. As for the FA thing, it happens to players who are too old to reenter. 83's will not reenter, but '84's will, unless your a late '83 (after september something). 83's not signed will be free to sign anywhere, late '83's and '84's will reenter the draft.

Why redraft Deveaux? There are hundreds of younger undrafted players out there.

Just as long as he isn't smart like streetcar. We'll give him the benefit of the doubt there. And while he isn't as big as a streetcar he's bigger than most of the Habs forwards. I hope he's tough enough to hold his own against the treatment he'd be sure to get in the plaoffs.

My point was just that he's back in the draft, there's no guarantee that he'll be drafted again - after all, he's hasn't been so dominant as to be a slam-dunk draft pick...

Doesn't matter, Deveaux is gone. By not signing him we give up his rights. On draft day he'll either be drafted again, or he'll be a FA able to sign anywhere, but he won't be in our organization unless we sign him at some point.

So it looks like Deveaux went un-signed and is now effectively cut loose. Can't say that i'm at all suprised. It would have been nice if he had worked out, god knows the Habs could have used his size down the middle, but he wasn't very impressive when i saw him at 2 different Habs rookie tournaments. I think he will be in tough to put together an AHL career...

I was impressed with this kid when the Rocket came to Halifax. He's got a rocket of a shot. NHL calibre in my opinion. I'm looking forward to watching this kid progress through the ranks. He could be the LW of the future.

All I can say is that I've seen Lambert played twice and both times he impressed me. And that was two years ago when the Rockets were playing in Montreal. He seems to have nice soft hands and a nose for the net. Plus, he finishes his body checks and has decent speed. IMO, he could be in the picture sooner then everybody thinks.

Would Lambert be a first rounder if he were in the 2004 draft? Sounds good to me.

Would Lambert be a first rounder if he were in the 2004 draft? Sounds good to me. IMO no. I've seen him several times when the team was still in Montreal, and frankly I wasn't overly impressed. In fact I ALWAYS left the game impressed by Lapierre (and Urquhart was to be polite...... invisible.) Granted since they moved to P.E.I. I've been unable to follow the progress of Lambert. In my short viewings he appeared to be another Eric Chouinard. Nice size, nice wheels, GREAT shot, poor effort. Hopefully he improved on those negative aspects and will continue with the Bulldogs.
