Thanks for the link.
The mock draft has a lot of that word I dislike in scouting - "need". Teams don't draft by need at the very top. In a weak draft, you go with whoever seems like a guy who might just make it in some role.

The Habs pick was done by me. Actually I didn't know it was going to be used in an article, but still I wouldn't be pissed if we got Fransson. I only picked him cause Savard said he liked him last year. I don't see us taking him at 18th, due to back to back injury seasons.
I think our guy will be Korpikoski based off they type of player he is and what Savard/Timmins seem to go for.

I remember reading about Fransson some time ago, and i figured he would possibly make an interesting 2nd round pick. But seeing as though we traded that pick away, i figured he would be quite a stretch at #18. I agree with you that Korpikoski is a strong possibility with our 1st round selection. But something tells me that the Habs might suprise us with their selection...

If not for his injuries, Fransson wouldn't make it to the 2nd round, but back to back injury seasons have to knock him down the list a bit. But like Green both have had an extra year to develop over the other prospects, which makes it harder to compare with the others. For our 84th/95th/100th picks, I would think we'll grab a defensemen there, guys like Jordan Smith and Alexei Yemelin might be good picks there for their physical play. Mike Lundin, Klye Klubertanz might make good picks for their offensive abilities. It's going to be an interesting draft for sure.

For what its worth, since joining Montreal, Andre Savard has drafted only 1 Swede (Christopher Heino-Lind) and a cursory look at Ottawa draft picks seems to suggest he only drafted over-agers while there (Alfreddson, Arvedsson, Dackell).
Not sure if that means he isn't overly confident in Swedish 18 year olds, or if it means I'm reading way too much into it...

There is no doubt that Savard is biased.
Last year I invited him to see my scoring ability against my 12 year old nephew and he did not show up at the appointed time I gave him. Talking about bias, I think the guy has a complete disregard (some may call disrespect) for 50 year old snipers who need Zamboni's to prop them up.
Having said that.......
The fact that he has signed Q-ball tells me that defence is seriously concerning him. As much as we need a power forward and a big center, we need defenseman first. Hainsey unscrewed head and the lack of "almost" NHL ready defenseman must weigh heavily in his mind.
Then of course, he could always sign a decent defenseman or trade for one.
Or...
I am available and I will work for burgher and beers.

Zajac and Montoya available after our pick? That's a scary thought.
