Thanks for the article and information about a prospect who I'm very interested in. Unfortuneatly, the information is hard to come by, especially with Kastsitsyn bouncing around like a ping-pong ball. Great article!

These stats look pretty good for a player that's been bounced around alot. 1.2 points per game is very respectable considering that he hasn't played with the same team on a regular basis, let alone the same linemates. I sincerely hope that BG can bring him to the AHL next season so he can get a chance to have a lot of icetime, with regular linemates. Assuming, of course, that he isn't "bounced" to the NHL right away! THF

Against weaker competition he is by far the best player on the ice, but against top notch competition he struggled. I still want him over here though. 69 points in Russian and international competitions (the second assist is not freely given as ion the NHL for being the ninth last man to touch the puck) is the eqivalent of about 85 points in the AHL. We need him over here ASAP, and suit him up after the CBA crap ....... baptism by fire .... sink or swim ..... don't let him rot in the minors for 3 years for Cripes Sake

I think he was a high risk high reward pick and that's what we need. I'm still uncomfortable with a player who plays for that many teams in a single year, he may break Dale Hunters record for the number of teams played for. He's still young, getting better I hope, and not a terrible pick. I predict that Locke will be a better player for the Hab's. At this point predictions cost nothing and I trust Gainey and Savard know more than I do, but I took Hudler over Linhart and Bernier over Kastitsyn. Time will tell and I hope I'm wrong. I liked Alexeev too but I guess I don't have to remind you again. (I've mentioned it once or twice in the past) (I liked ten years of Blazing Balej over five weeks of Enegmatic Kovalev, but we have to wait on that one too.)

So you are saying you like finishing ninth or first round blow-out over going to the second round. I don't. Kovalev gave the team a spark, management finally showed the team it would go and get a player to make the team competitive. Around the time we got Kovalev need I remind you the team was only 3 points ahead of Buffalo. Then with the aquisition of Kovalev the team bonded (yes yes yes Kovalev never had much to do with it due to lack of conditioning and injury) and they were not playing to make the playoffs anymore, they were playing to show they were contenders. We haven't lost Kovalev yet, and even if we do lose him you have to factor in who Gainey replaces him with (with the money alloted for Kovalev) into the Balej deal.

I don't think I said I like finishing 9th over going to the second round? I said I like high risk high reward picks. There is a chance of greatness. Gainey can find us lots of Muckers and we don't have to waste draft picks to get them. (Langdon, Dowd, Begin) Kastitsyn may be great or never amount to much. Locke may be great or a bust. Milroy will certainly make it to the NHL but his upside potential is limited. This year a good pick is Schremp. He will be great if he gets his head screwed on right or he may be a bust if his attitude doesn't change. High risk high reweard. Two rounds in the playoffs beats picking ninth any time. The playoffs were fun this year, even when we lost. I recall saying that getting Kovalev was a risky move by Gainey. High risk high reward. If Kovy stays around a few years and stars it's a good move. If he's gone after 13 regular season games (and Balej stars for the Rangers for ten years)................well at least Gainey tried. I love speed and hated to lose Balej. I didn't like the trade at the time and still don't like it now, but Gainey is smarter than me so I assume he has inside info that I don't. (I know he has inside info I don't) In the playoffs Kovalev showed some superstar play I didn't realize he had. He made a few mistakes too and only caught fire after the first three games. Was he playing for his next free agent contract?

I would really like to see what he can do with a full year in the Habs' system at Hamilton under a good coach like Jarvis and getting used to team-mates that he could be playing with for years. The NHL CBA uncertainty and the NHL-RHF transfer agreement expiry are both working against us on this one, but every mention of Kasty from Habs' management seems to spark a quote showing great desire to get him over to NA sooner rather than later.

Getting Kastsitsyn to play in a North American professional league (AHL or NHL) next season would forestall any difficulty in getting him out of Russia at a later date. One never knows what red tape might lie ahead. Besides, the Canadiens would obviously relish the opportunity to observe him on a daily basis.

Montreal did so last year and we still don't know if it will pay off. That route to the draft makes youlook like a genius when it pays off - but it makes you look like an amatuer when it doesn't.
