Here the NFL is implementing rules to lessen the impact injuries have on players in the game and they uncover something like this.
Talk about undermining the integrity of the game. Wow!
Cheers.

I firmly believe he came down as hard as he did because of that underminding of the goal of protecting players more. Add in the covert nature of it, and you have the precident set today.

Goodell is a new breed though. Smart, tough, and not willing to pander to owners. We need a guy like that in the league office, and we need one in Montreal.

Even Gregg Williams, who moved to the Rams' organization, got suspended for his part in it.
Maybe that info's in the article....but I just saw it on TV.

Reinforces the adage, do what you want. Just don't get caught. It's been going on for years. I've told players to go after guys on the other team that needed a talking to. Did it myself a coupla times but that was a long time ago.
Wonder what Fergy told Clarke about Kharlamov?

It's one thing to target a player, but his players were getting bonuses for it. So it's not just a coaching 'philosophy'. This was a team thing. Management on down the line. Take a star out at the knees and you get X. Head, and you get Y. It's wrong.

dunno, BLNY. wouldn't be surprised to hear it happens elsewhere and almost everywhere. I guess this was too "official". not saying it is right just that it is.

Don't disagree on either count franko. I'm sure it does go on. Still doesn't make it right. I'd be interested to hear what former Patriot Rodney Harrison has to say. He's an analyst for NBC now. He had a rep as one of the dirtiest DB's in the game. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if he was part of something similar.
It's one thing to identify people on other teams that you need to focus your game plan on.
It's one thing to go after a guy who's done something to you or a teammate.
Specifically targeting people for the purposes of intent to injure, and providing monetary reward for it is wrong. Simple as that.

Looks like Greg Williams may get hit alot harder for his role in this. Reports are now surfacing that when he was with the Redskins, Greg Williams offered $15,000 to anyone who took out Vikings QB Brad Johnson. Johnson and Redskins owner Dan Synder had a bit of bad blood between each other. The report also states that Greg Blache, the Redskins defensive coordinate, told players if they were fined it would be taken care of .... ... it doesn't come out and say it, but if you read between the lines, it appears to me that in this instance, and quite possibly in others, that there is some owner involvement.

Wouldn't surprise me if that mentality is league-wide.
IMO, it would be naive to think it doesn't happen in the NHL.
Witness the Bruins running rampant.
And were members of the Canucks offered incentive$ to get Steve Moore? There certainly was a froth worked up.
