an interview with the Habs' Director of Player Personnel taken from the Habs' official website: Timmins predicts a wide-open draft after Russian prospects Alexander Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin likely go 1-2 to Washington and Pittsburgh, and while Montreal will remain committed to taking the top player available when its time on the clock comes to pass, the organization is in synch with most observers when recognizing what it currently lacks the most.
“I think the general consensus out there is that we need some size up the middle,” Timmins admitted. “That being said, you can’t just go out there and pick a center because he’s big. You’ve got to pick the best talent available, and then maybe you can trade another asset to get a center.”--full article--R.

Timmins conceded that while teams are generally tight-lipped about the particular talents that interest them entering the draft (the alternative “would be like giving away your game plan,” he points out), most clubs can handicap the way things will go through general buzz and through the reports that most fans are familiar with: Those listed in The Hockey News and turned in by such hockey experts as Bob McKenzie.
“Those guys talk to directors of player personnel, GMs, scouts, and other hockey people to try to put a general picture together of how things will go,” Timmins explained. “Whatever information they dig up through their contacts can be useful to us.”
