Corner Gas
Dan For Mayor
Hiccups
and now Mr. D
Has anyone here been truly enjoying these shows...i.e. getting big laughs?

I'll be honest, I don't watch a lot of Canadian television. I never gave these sitcoms any chance at all, so I can't comment on them.
In the past I enjoyed "The Beachcombers" and I really can't remember too much else as far as Canadian shows are concerned. The American sitcoms:
All in the Family, Barney Miller, Three's Company, M*A*S*H,
These shows had a place in our house along with "The Beachcombers". I used to watch a few of the spinoff shows as well.
Found "The Simpsons" to be a gas depending on the episode, but I haven't watched any new episodes in probably five years or so.
Cheers.

Three's Company Dis? and no mention of WKRP? Though I'll go along with Barney Miller.
Also, no mention of Coach's Corner?
In answer, CH . . . no. Despite the money thrown towards Canadian broadcasting [there is some] there isn't much worth watching. Let's face it -- something is wrong when a CBC radio show like "The Debaters" is video taped and aired.

Hey, I'm glad there are opportunities for Canadian performers, writers, directors, etc..... All too often, we don't take our talent seriously unless they've made it big in the States. These are the people who decided to stay here. I'm happy for them. It's just that a lot of the sitcoms aren't very funny. To me, they're more cute and whimsical, like Corner Gas...and that was one of the best ones to come along in quite a while. Mr. D tries for the edge at times...but it has that all too familiar "Canadian" look and feel. It could be the result of CBC pressure to keep families in mind. The one thing I do like about them....no laugh tracks. The sketch shows were/are sweetened in that manner: SCTV, Air Farce, This Hour, Rick Mercer, Comedy Inc. (I think the laugh track was on 11 for that one )....but the sitcoms are left alone.

Three's Company was up there too. Cheers.

Let's face it, for the most part Canadian sitcoms suck.
However, at the very top of this sorry heap is "The Newsroom". Dark, cynical, and razor-sharp writing in the vein of the BBC's "The Office" but preceding it by about 5 years or so.

Agree, The Newsroom was very sharp.

I found Corner Gas to be boring. Little Mosque I actually found pretty funny, though I didn't see much of it.

Chef, from BBC, WKRP was excellent Top Gear....oh wait, that's a drama/documentary, I think.
