I sure hope his lack of scoring was due to that groin injury TSN mentioned. I really like character a lot, but Calgary showed that sometimes character isn't enough (at least it isn't when the other team suffers no injuries and gets a lot of unearned breaks). If he's going to be a 2nd line center, the scoring will have to improve. Let's hope last year was just an injury related downer.

Some fans will cry now that we've drafted one. Some fans... I said in another thread that I wouldn't be surprised if Chipchura doubles his point total from 48 to 96 as an 18 year old. Being singled out by Bob Gainey won't hurt his confidence or his desire to prove himself worthy of the selection.

All well and good. Chipchura won't hurt. But does anyone deny that some of the wannabes in the East have helped themselves more in this draft? Each year's draft has an impact on virtually every team, but any improvement is relative to the rest of the pack.

Something tells me that Ribeiro is going to hate chips, I mean REALLY HATE chips.... Not for awhile, Addict. By that time Cory Urquhart and/or Tomas Plekanec may have to be fitted into the equation. My snack during the first round consisted of walnuts and a second cup of black coffee.

Ribs will in no way feel threatened by Chips. In fact, I think he's tickled pink by this selection. They've found their shut down 3rd line centre. Now I wonder how Lapierre (who I like much more) will fit in the team in the future.

Fine, then Lapierre, although I wouldn't summarily rule out Urquhart. I haven't seen either one play, so my opinions aren't firm. I, too, like Plekanec, whom I have seen a number of times and who has never played badly in my view.
