Here's one of those, "I've-got-15-minutes-before-work-starts" kind of posts.
I remember talking to a flight attendant a few years back who flew with both Mulroney and Chretien. However, this morning I was also talking with a military flight attendant who flew with PM Harper and this is what tweaked the idea for the post. This is what I remember them describing these personalities as:
PM Mulroney: Arrogant, short-tempered and rude. Mulroney was rude to just about all of his staff, the flight crew and his wife, who he had some vile arguments with on the plane (no holds barred with Mulroney's vocabulary when being critical). He had to have one of our three airbus aircraft refitted to have a bed and shower, with services similar to Airforce 1. If the coffee wasn't to his liking he'd rip the flight crew a new arse and demand that another pot be put on. There was no pleasing him. He always wanted and expected more.
PM Chretien: Chretien had a more human side. He didn't need the bed, though it was there if he needed it. Sometimes he'd just disappear and his staff had no idea where he went on the plane. He did this often and he was usually in either one of two places; he'd go to the rear of the plane and get his own double scotch (or rye whisky, I can't remember) "like you would make in da' mess', or he'd sneak away to the rear of the aircraft, lift up the arm rests to the seats, get his own blanket and pillow and just go to sleep. He always had time to talk to the flight crew.
PM Harper: Harper is a workaholic. He rarely sleeps on the plane and is always doing something; burshing up on world affairs, reading his favourite magazine "The Economist", or just doing some sort of business in general. He's also been known to ignore fancy restaurants in favour of a good burger and fries. Likes to jog.
Cheers.
