Three kids played tonight in the CHL, all three had an assist.
In a truly weird scheduling thing, Saskatoon Blades played their first game in ten nights. They played provincial rival Regina and came away 3-2 winners. Both Dietz and Thrower had assists.
Kamloops snuck by Ryan Murray and Everett tonight 3-2 in a shoot out. Bozon had an apple on one of the two goals.
EDIT: After the fact they actually gave Bozon an extra assist on his last game on the 30th, so he assisted on both of the Blazers' goals. Here's a cool factoid that shows just how dominant the Lipon-Smith-Bozon line has been: Tim now is riding a 6 game multi point streak and has had 11 multiple point nights in his 17 games played.

The Kamloops Blazers "unbeaten in regulation" tag has officially been removed, as they lost 3-0 to Kelowna last night. As you can easily gather, it also ended Tim Bozon's points streak. All good things must come to an end. That being said, the Blazers still have a stunning 16-1-0-1 record in their first 18 games. The only other CHL prospect in action last night was Brady Vail, who ended up with a goal and an assist. He now has a very impressive 22 points in his first 17 games. That is really good for a guy who was known as a very solid defensive centre. He is definitely taking full advantage of more ice time this year. It will be interesting to see if the US invite him out to their final selection camp for their WJC team this year. Vail now has one more point than Alex Galchenyuk, who does have two games in hand at least!! Not bad when Gally is your second highest scoring OHL prospect.

Here is a video of Collberg's second goal in the Allsvenskan that he scored on October 28th. Nice bit of work along the boards, and then a nice give and go with a beauty snipe to finish off the play. His goal is the first one on the video. He now has 2 goals in 5 games in the Swedish second mens league. www.hockeyallsvenskan.se/nyheter/8kvrlycmk4

Mac Bennett with a second straight one goal/one assist night. Coach Red Berenson giving him lots of ice time and he delivering.
Gally breaks the pointless streak at one and gets two goals and two helpers tonight in a 7-5 Sarnia win.
Kristo has a goal tonight, as he keeps his points streak alive. Weirdly enough, they had him on LW last night.

A guy like Galchenyuk has to always draw the other team's best checking line, so to see him blow things open two straight games is really good news. I read a number of reports from folks that saw the games, and they all mentioned how dominant he was. I saw some highlights of him making brilliant and calm moves on the PK, no less. Funny how I posted on Friday that Brady Vail was our leading scoring OHL prospect. He now sits 6 points behind Alex. Take that!! Hab Prospect on TV tonight!!
Charles Hudon will be playing for Team QMJHL as they take on Russia in the Subway Super Series game one tonight. Charles returned from a concussion this past weekend, and got in three games. He had a good night last night, netting three assists in his game. Hudon was very impressive against Russia in August as part of Hockey Canada's four game Canada-Russia junior series that essentially replaced their summer selection camp for the world juniors. A good performance in these two games by Hudon will help his chance to get an invite to the final WJC selection camp in December.
This game will also feature a couple of guys expected to go very high next summer in the draft. Nathan MacKinnon is expected to be in a battle with Seth Jones for the top overall pick, and his teammate Jonathan Drouin is also going to go first round and has been getting lots of attention from scouts (including ours). William Carrier and Anthony Mantha also are highly regarded QMJHL prospects for the next draft, which looks to a much stronger one for the Q after a string of anything but.
Nail Yakupov will be playing, so he adds a little star power to the Russian squad. The top ranked Russian player in the draft, winger Valeri Nichushkin, will be the player to watch for scouts.

Thanks for the vid, NWT. We have something to really be excited about. This guy is creating scoring chances from 'normal' situations where everyone is covered. He's good enough individually to break down defenses, like he did with that dangle against Plymouth and then feeding Sarault after the dman and goalie both had to go to him. I also love the fact he doesn't hot dog it. If you've watched Cam Newton of Carolina Panthers, you'll know what I mean. He scores a touchdown and puts on his Superman act, even if 10 other guys have blocked their asses off for him. It's all about him with Newton and because of that, until he learns otherwise, he'll never win a championship. Galchy doesn't have that. He scored on that cross ice pass to him, celebrated, and then pointed to the guy who made the pass. He shares the credit, and will be a much liked teammate because of it. He also looks big, doesn't he? Am I ever glad Columbus took Ryan Murray. Whew!

For those that were not able to catch the first game of the Super Series last night, the Russians beat Charles Hudon and team QMJHL 6-2. The Q team just did not have the calibre of goaltending and defense to stop that quick attack Russian offense from lighting the lamp. Hudon played on the designated checking line centred by Danault, and their main job was to shadow the Yakupov line all night. I think they did a decent job, and you can really see that Hudon's good hockey sense is not just limited to the offensive end of the rink. He anticipates passes and plays well, and was an effective shadow last night.
Despite his size, he still plays aggressively and threw some nice hits and was decent of the forecheck. One over-enthusiastic play ended up with him getting a minor penalty out of the deal, but not the type that drive coaches nuts for being lazy or out of a play...it was the total opposite.
I think it is only good that Hudon can show he can be an effective player at both ends of the rink, that will help his stock with all the Hockey Canada folks (and the five Habs scouts/managers) in the rink last night.
Valentin Zykov, who plays for Baie Comeau in the Q, looked pretty good for the Russians last night. His stock has been rising on some draft lists, and you could see his skills on display last night. Drouin was injured, but maybe he will be back tomorrow night or at least by Friday night as the Moosehead are on Sportsnet on Friday night as well. Mantha looked decent, Carrier was rather invisible, and MacKinnon looked out of sorts on the wing and played better at centre in the third alongside Huberdeau.

I guess it is time for another monthly top three prospect list. With the NCAA season in full swing, all of the kids have had enough games to get a sense of how their starts to the season have been. Here are my views on some who are rising a bit above the rest.
1. Alex Galchenyuk, C/W, Sarnia (OHL) - Gally is on quite a roll these days, coming of a sequence of 7 points in two consecutive nights this past weekend. He now has 28 points in 18 games. It is not just the points, it is the manner in which he is getting them. He generates offense of both his shot and his stick handling/passing abilities. He is a double threat as goalies and defenders cannot cheat that he will pass as he has a great wrist shot, and it is finding the mark these days. If they cheat on his shot, then he has hockey IQ and passing abilities that will find either Sarault or Boucher open. He has some great chemistry with those two, so the only downside right now is that means he has moved to the wing and is not taking many faceoffs. If you watch his play though, he is often the puck carrier and guy controlling the centre of the ice, so he plays like a centre once the puck has been dropped. He is now 4th in OHL scoring and is really starting to establish himself among the elite offensive players in the OHL this season. He should be a critical part of the US world junior team's offense when they name their team next month.
2. Tim Bozon, LW, Kamloops (WHL) - Tim is still hanging onto 3rd overall in the WHL scoring race with an amazing 31 points in 19 games, trailing only his two linemates Lipon and Smith. Their line was actually held scoreless two games in a row last week, but I don't expect that to last long as there is too much talent on that line to stay quiet for long. He is blessed with good speed and I believe a really good knack for finding the goalscorers spots on the ice. While he may not always be the guy on his line controlling the play, he knows where to go to get in a good shooting spot and he often gets the puck. He is also very effective on the fly in transition as you see quite a number of his points off breaks. Tim plays internationally for France, so not sure if he will be joining his team the 9-15th of December as they play in Division 1 this year. I would think sticking around for Kamloops would be better for his development.
3. Mac Bennett, D, Univ of Michigan (NCAA) - At 6'0" 193 lbs, Mac is another of our skilled puck moving defenders who are not all that big. At 21 years of age, while he can still add strength and weight, he likely does not have any more growth spurts left in him. That being said, Mac has had to step his game up as the Wolverines lost their top defender Jon Merrill to injury in the preseason. Mac, who already wears one of the "A"s on his team in his third year, has had to play a lot of ice time in all circumstances. Coach Red Berenson has remarked on how well he has responded to the challenge, including the additional defensive responsibilities. He boasts an impressive +8 so far this season. It has not hurt his offensive production either, as he currently is the leading points getter for all NCAA defensemen and second in team scoring with 3 goals and 6 assists in 7 games. He was also named CCHA defenseman of the week for last week.
Honourable Mention: Danny Kristo, RW, Univ of North Dakota (NCAA) - Danny was under a lot of scrutiny early on this season after his decision to return for this fourth year of college hockey instead of turning pro, and then he and the fellow captains' suspension for some off ice incident with rookie players. He looked good in preseason with 5 points in those two games, and has picked up where he left off despite missing the opening weekend of the regular season for the aforementioned suspension. Danny has 6 points so far in his first 4 regular season games and his points have all been very well earned from all the highlights I have seen and first hand reports I have read. While I hope he has a good last season in the NCAA, I am really looking forward to seeing him in a Bulldogs jersey next fall to see what he can do at the next level.

The Subway Super Series continues on Sportsnet tonight. This will be the last game featuring a Habs' prospect as none of our OHL or WHL prospects got invited (our two best are Gally and Bozon, and neither are Canadian or Russian - well at least not playing international hockey for Russia!). Hudon will get a pretty talented linemate tonight as he will be on a line with Danault and Jonathan Huberdeau. Draft eligible Jonathan Drouin has been cleared to play, and he will be playing alongside his Halifax buddy Nathan MacKinnon, hoping to build on their own chemistry that has seen them light up the league so far.
My Oil Kings handed the Blazers their first home loss last night, 2-1 in regulation. Tim Bozon was involved in a post final whistle incident in front of Edmonton's net with perennial shift disturber Keegan Lowe. The Oil King defender, and Kevin's kid, has yet to meet a post whistle scrum that he did not like. It is being reported that Bozon was involved in a spitting incident, so league disciplinary action is likely. Both kids were given 24 minutes of penalties on the play.

Fourth straight multi point night for Alex as he gets another two points and a win against Sudbury. He scored the tying goal and then assisted on the game winner. He is now in a logjam tie for second in league scoring, with a batch of guys sitting at 32 points.
Sure hope Sportsnet gets these guys on Friday night CHL hockey soon.

Every now and then you have these nights where a bunch of prospects all seem to have great games. Tonight is one of those nights.
Magnus Nygren - 3 assists (he is having s great year in the SEL- do we have a Swedish MAB here?)
Olivier Archambault - 2 goals, 2 assists, GWG
Brady Vail - 2 goals, GWG
Charles Hudon - 1 goal, 1 assist
Alex Galchenyuk - 2 assists

Good read on Vail. I like these kind of draft picks as he could be real gem where he started playing the game later. I this draft in '13 could be better than '12 draft. It is a very good draft and Habs have a few more picks.

13 will definitely be better. Any one of the top 3 this year, McKinnon, Jones or Barkov, would have gone first overall last year. Then there are a whole bunch of guys who are very good, but not quite in the same categoryas these three, to follow.

I can't remember how it works.
If we lose the whole season again, what's the draft order? Do they do a lottery drawing again with the same teams? If we could miss a whole year, but grab Nathan MacKinnon in the process.....

...last time around they did a lottery with every teams to establish drafting order. The higher you finished in the standings during the last played season, the more balls you had in the machine: they started from picking 30th drafting spot and moved up to 1st.

An interview from Sweden with 18 year old prospect Sebastian Collberg, mainly about his move from Frolunda to Orebro where he is getting much more ice time. The JVM that the article refers to is the World Junior Championships.
The google translation does offer up a few funny phrases, but you get the jist of the article for the most part.
Wednesday, November 21, 2012 10:00
"It's clear that I have had a chance ' Collberg not dissatisfied with Frölunda . Frölunda has been criticized for the handling of Sebastian Collberg. Self is to Örebro loaned striker did not disappoint. I would have tried a little more play in the powerplay where I'm good, but I definitely think you can say that I have been given the chance, he says to hockeysverige.se.
Coming from Mariestad and play for Orebro might have been unthinkable five or six years ago. When was hockey clubs from each city namely angry rivals in Division 1 and met often in infected clashes in different playoff games.
Today needs to Sebastian Collberg not sneak with his dialect when he steps into the dressing room in Örebro Behrn Arena. While närkingarna have established themselves as a top club in Hockeyallsvenskan are the parent club Mariestad in Division 1 after a brief sojourn in the country's second highest series of the season 2008/09.
For 18-year-old Collberg's stake in the country's second highest series actually a step down. He belongs Frölunda, but after a season opening with sporadic ice time in the top division was a lending necessary to ensure the continued development of the JVM current striker. We were at Frölunda jiggle for a loan now that there was so much play. When Stalberg and Duchene also came in, it felt like it was the right position because I ended up outside the team, says Sebastian Collberg when hockeysverige.se reach him. I wanted to get away from J20-hockey and playing more senior hockey. Frölunda also thought it was a good idea.
Assist that gave confidence. A lot of premier league clubs showed interest, but it was Orebro seemed interesting. I did not know much about the team, except that Simon (Olsson) plays there. But it's been great to get to a new thread with a trainer (Peter Andersson) as I had heard would be good. Furthermore, it is close to Gothenburg, which also fits well, says Sebastian Collberg.
How do you see the season start in Frölunda before you ended up in Orebro? It went pretty good, at least compared to last season. I managed to make my first two points, two assists. It is perhaps not so much, but better than last year when I did not do any at all. It gave some confidence.
Yet it has been pretty bad with time. Has it been frustrating? It is clear that there has been a bit frustrating. It is difficult to get into the game properly when you are not playing so much in every game. That's why it was important to come to Örebro and try to find the feeling. It's half hard if you play for a bit.
Many have been critical of Frölunda handling you, you have not had a chance really. Do you think you've got the chance? - Yes, of course I have the chance, otherwise I can not say. Since then I just tried some more games in the powerplay where I'm good. It would have made it had felt more involved, but I definitely think you could say that I have been given the chance.
Lending to Orebro applies primarily until the JVM camp starts in mid-december. Just JVM was another reason why it was important for Collberg to get regular playing time. - Yes, it was something we talked about with Frölunda and agreed that I needed to play properly and especially play my game for the JVM. There have been positive.
In Örebro, it got better and better for Sebastian Collberg. In Oskarshamn later he shot two goals and impressed in a chain with Simon Olsson and Niklas Lihagen . That gives him four goals and five points in nine games so far. He begins, in other words get hot in the clothes. - It feels a bit like that. Here in the headlines have a little more time than in the premier league. The pace, down here, and I like that. We must dare to take away, and I think that I have done. Now it was two bags last and it's something to work further on, he says.
Tonight will Djurgarden to Behrn Arena. There are whispers of packed stands in Örebro and the home team can expect a tough match against a Djurgarden chock-full of confidence after the 6-2 victory against Leksand this weekend.
In the match said another 18-year-old junior forward for a hat trick, Djurgårdens Alexander Wennberg . He played center in Sebastian Collbergs formation during the U18 World Championships last spring. - Very funny that he had to put three pucks. I did not know much about him before the U18 World Cup, but it's a really good hockey player. I've seen some of Djurgårdens games this season and he has really impressed, says Collberg.
Will it be you who is responsible for a hat trick tonight then? - (Laughter) Let's hope so.

Here's video of Galchenyuk's two points (ho hum) in a 5-3 loss to London. Very nice pass on the first highlight, and a ripper of a wrist shot when it looks like the puck is too far away from his body for him to get anything on the shot. He also dipsy doodles around two Knights and sets the plate for his winger whose backhand either misses the net or is saved. Great set-up. www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=uJjr5z0qqZs
