... yesterday.
It was the second call we got from the same company in the same day asking us if we wanted our ductwork cleaned or replaced ... started off telling them that it was the second time in the same day we got a call from them ... and to reiterate what my wife said, we don't have any ductwork ... and how their calls are starting to piss me off ... take me off your list ... lasted for about a minute straight ... no pauses ... he hung up ...
Cheers.

A friend of mind baffled a telemarketer selling newspaper subscriptions. He told the person that he reads the papers online. When the sales guy asked "well, what about your wife?" my friend's reply was - " she can't read". Complete silence than a click. Never called him again.

This is what a buddy of mine did. He put the telemarketer on hold with the phone off the hook and the receiver left conveniently by a radio, which was on some local pop station. Then he walked away.
Might have to try that too.
Cheers.

the other side of the coin is that telemarketing is not the first choice of most people for a job . . . there is more than a bit of desperation settling in for them to go this route. and that they are people too. [and] that they probably despise what they have to do, and maybe even themselves for having to do it, and are just hanging on until something better comes along.
I try to be a bit more compassionate and patient and just say "no thanks". What gets me is the people who go on after you say "no" . . . "but this is a great deal, how can you pass it up, yada yada yada". I don't even bother talking after that: click.
call display works wonders, too: 1-800 = not gonna pick up.
liked your response, though, Dis . . . disagree totally with people who think that an air horn is appropriate.

You are a nicer person than I am. I am on the NO CALL list but it doesn't stop them. I start by asking the telemarketer what they are wearing, do they feel sexy, what they wore to bed last night.....you get the idea.

...annoying fer sure.
...but like Franko, I always tell myself that these people are doing a job... and not an easy one. They're not calling me because they want to or like it. They have to.

I can respect these people have jobs to do, guys, but it was the second time in a day, just a few hours apart, that they called for the same thing. And, as we've told them numerous times in the past, we live in a house that simply doesn't have ductwork. Nor will it be there in the future.
This company may have people in need of jobs and I can respect that. However, they don't talk to each other, nor is it part of their process. If this is the simpleton system they're using I'm going to show them as much respect as they're showing me.
Heck, in my books they deserve it. And, yes, I've also heard that no-call list is very inconsistent. In many cases it doesn't work at all.
Cheers.

Every time a telemarketer calls and asks by name, I tell them that that I (or wifey) passed away three days ago and tomorrow it's the funeral.
I've died so many times......but thankfully, my wife has a bucket of Viagra handy to resurrect me.....

These "telemarketers" are more often than not our only contact with this disturbing company. Just maybe if you "let loose" on one, he/she might speak to a supervisor and say "...come on get this guy off the list, he doesn't even have ductwork, we're waiting our time and his..."...and I tell ya some of them are pushy and arrogant like hell. Every season's change, I get calls to fertilize my lawn, remove weeds and things or whatever... In spring to get it ready for summer, in summer to have it greener than money, in fall to get it ready for winter and in the winter...well...to offer "amazing" discounts on yearly plan... and every time I say I'm not interested. And every time I say take me off your list. But they never do... Annoying like hell...
