That makes him sound like a typical Houle draft pick. He was among the totally useless class of 1999.

That makes him sound like a typical Houle draft pick. He was among the totally useless class of 1999. A Draft to forget, that's for sure. Not a single NHL game generated from all our picks that year, and we are at that magical "5 year mark" at which you should be able to assess the quality of the picks...el stinko. Tarasov looked good in the RSL and was even goalie of the year, but had an AHL experience that didn't work out as planned and now is Back in the USSR and unlikely to return. He was the best bet to make the NHL IMO. Buturlin, our top pick at 39th (we had no first rounder that year), has done reasonably well in the RSL but reportedly turned down an offer to sign and move over here shortly after being drafted due to money differences. He was over here for our camp back then, but it now looks less likely that he may ever come back over...although I would like to see how he stacks up given his good RSL experience, as he is still quite young at 22. Shasby and Thinel are still struggling to get regular ice time in Hamilton, and Marois was not offered a new contract this year after maxing out at the ECHL level. The rest are even better fodder. I just can't see us realistically getting a single NHL game out of this bunch...a wasted draft at this point.

I was (and barely still am) a supporter of MA. He racked up the points as a Jr. demonstrating a scoring talent (at the Jr. level). Scorers are born, not made. MA has not produced anywhere near the way de did in his jr. years. I've repeatedly said, give the kid a chance. he's small and taking a while to get to the next level, but he's still only 22. Now is the time for him to produce or forever hold hie peace. He is a very long shot, a small slow scoring forward on a team chock full of small slow scoring potential. I have less confidence in him now than I did a couple of years ago, but it's all up to him. I hope he makes it, but I won't bet the farm. Management thinks enough of him to give him this last chance.

C'mon. It's not a last chance to make the Habs. Thinel is no more than ballast to help fill out the minor league system.
