Rosa and Zinck are both currently on the Long Beach Ice Dog roster, the Habs' ECHL affiliate. www.icedogs.com/roster/According to Dan Linn, it looks like this may have been part of the affiliation deal. Makes sense to me. Long Beach gets to send some guys up to camp, and Hamilton gets to send some guys down to Long Beach once their AHL roster is full.

Rearguard Ron Hainsey and forward Marcel Hossa, who both played key roles for the team in 2003-04, were kept on the Canadiens’ active roster for the coming campaign. - www.canadiens.com/eng/news/redirect.cfm?sectionID=habsNewsDetails.cfm&newsItemID=3974Dykhuis signed a 3 year one-way contract in 2001. He was unprotected in the 2003 wauver draft but was unclaimed and so was able to be sent safely to Hamilton. However, it seems that this year the Habs have elected to keep him on their active roster rather than put him on waivers for purposes of sending him down again.

Well, just bought my tickets today for the season opening series featuring our very own Hamilton Bulldogs visiting the Edmonton Roadrunners (formerly of the Ricoh Centre on the Toronto waterfront) at Rexall Place on October 15th and 16th. I will be going to both the Friday and Saturday night games and plan on having a bit of a report on the games once I return home. Let's hope the Dogs fare better against the Roadrunners this year as the boys from down the Queensway sure had their number last season.
Go Dogs Go!!

I would have thought that Larrivee would have made the jump to the AHL at last. Being one of the early cuts can't be encouraging. Another disappointing Houle draft pick it would seem.

I'm pretty dissapointed that Larrive couldn't atleast make the team in a lesser role out of camp. I had hopes that he might become a pretty good AHL player this season. Obviously there's not much hope for his NHL career anymore, but I liked what I saw briefly in Hamilton last season.

The odds were against him because securing a spot in the AHL has become tougher as a result of the backflow from the NHL after the lockout. Larrivée would have to compete with the likes of Komisarek and Hainsey. Life isn't fair.

Larrivee could still have made the team even with Komo and Hainsey back, as he wasn't competing for either of their spots on D. He really suffered from the influx of several key forwards like the FA signings in the offseason (Morgan, Dusablon and Ivanans), some good Dallas assignments (Ott and Miettinen), and some good young prospects being signed (Kostitsyn, Lambert, Locke, Uruqhart). That made for a pretty crowded forward pool.

Some bad news about Miettinen and Komo from SUZ-UK from the Bulldogs fan forum:
According to the Hamilton Spectator....
The Bulldogs have lost right winger Antti Miettinen, quite possibly for the season. Miettinen, a Stars prospect, has returned to Dallas for shoulder surgery ...
When the Hamilton Bulldogs open their season Friday in Edmonton, they'll be without Mike Komisarek. They won't have him for Sunday's home opener either. In fact, they won't be seeing the big defenceman in uniform for quite a while.
The top prospect, who spent most of last season with the Montreal Canadiens, was slated to play -- and wanted to play -- for the Bulldogs during the NHL lockout. Recently, however, he was diagnosed with a torn muscle in his left hip, and he will be out of action for at least a month.
Hope that helps

Translation by rocketlives at HF:
Mathias Brunet La Presse, Jeudi 14 octobre 2004
Komisarek will be absent for an undetermined period of time. His hip injury is more serious than anticipated.
The lock-out is timely for Mike Komisarek, the Habs' young defenseman. The work stoppage in the NHL will give him enough time to heal his hip injury which is more serious than initially assessed.
The Habs' first round pick in 2001 (7th overall) was supposed to report to the Hamilton Bulldogs at the end of September but he claimed he was still annoyed by a hip injury sustained late in the 2003-04 regular season during a game against the Buffalo Sabres.
The Habs' doctors examined him in August and declared him fit to play, but Komisarek felt pain in his hip while training and he consulted a specialist in New York in order to have a second opinion. The latter found the nature of his problem (stiffness at the hip joint) and recommended, with the Habs' medical team concurring, to follow a month of therapy in order to correct the problem.
"I knew that they would find something because the pain was sharp when I was training the last few weeks, said Komisarek yesterday. I will opt for rehab hoping that it will solve the problem. Otherwise, there is always the possibility of undergoing an operation, but this solution has its own risk and I prefer first to try heal my injury with a therapy followed by the Habs' medical team."
Komisarek said he injured himself in an odd way last March 24th against Buffalo. "While trying to get the puck out of my zone, my skate became stuck in a crack on the ice and I felt a pain in my hip. I continued to play for the rest of the regular season and the playoffs because at that time of the year, everybody plays with little aches and pains and I had finally a spot with the big team. However my injury seemed to worsen as I went along. I took a month of rest this summer thinking that the problem would disappear by itself but such was not the case."
The young defenseman wants to heal as quickly as possible so that he won't miss too many Bulldogs games. "I want to play. At my age, I can't afford to stay idle. We stopped playing last Spring, the Summer was very long." At least Komisarek will receive his NHL salary ($1.1M annually) during his convalescence.
*
From Pat Hickey's column in yesterday's Gazette:
...Mike Komisarek, meanwhile, will collect an NHL paycheque this weekend. Komisarek suffered a hip injury late last season and will be paid while undergoing an intensive rehabilitation program at the Bell Centre.
Komisarek said the timing of the lockout works for him.
"The most important thing is to get back into shape and get playing again," said Komisarek, who will report to the American Hockey League's Hamilton Bulldogs when he is cleared to play.
Komisarek was cleared two weeks ago, but he asked for a second medical opinion. A doctor in New York and team physician David Mulder agreed there was a problem and set up a rehab program with athletic therapist Graham Rynbend and strength coach Scott Livingston.
Komisarek said the injury - a partial tear of the labrum in his hip - didn't seem serious when it first occurred.
"I can remember that I was coming out of our zone and I caught my skate in a rut," Komisarek said. "There was nobody within 10 feet of me. It wasn't serious, but as I kept playing it got worse."
Komisarek said he was determined to play through the pain.
"(Sheldon Souray) was hurt and this was my chance to play and show what I could do."
When Komisarek went home to Long Island, he was advised to rest. He started working out a month later, but began to experience pain when he skated.
"I've had MRIs and other tests and I hope that this therapy works," Komisarek said.

Minus Komisarek, Bulldogs ready for actionYoung, quick offense shows promise(10/15/2004) HAMILTON – Despite the absence of a critical cog on their blue line, the Hamilton Bulldogs will enter the 2004-05 campaign with a lineup loaded with potential. Mike Komisarek, unquestionably one of the Canadiens’ rising defensive stars, will spend the next month in Montreal rehabbing a left hip injury that was sustained last March 24 in a game at Buffalo. Though at less than 100 percent, the 22-year-old native of West Islip, NY, turned in a series of strong performances through the Canadiens’ two rounds of postseason action against the Bruins and Lightning back in the spring. Komisarek shone when given the chance at additional ice time allowed by the injury to departed rearguard Stephane Quintal; he then took the summer to rest and recuperate, but ultimately met with team doctors in August when discomfort still lingered. - www.canadiens.com/eng/news/redirect.cfm?sectionID=habsNewsDetails.cfm&newsItemID=3994

From this article: "This is the place that I should be, playing with the young Montreal guys," Hainsey said.
"This was the right place to come. Hopefully, I'll play a lot of minutes, be watched by Montreal very closely and be ready to go full stride if and when it (the lockout) gets resolved.
"It's gonna be important for not just myself but the guys that have been around to steady things while we get the younger guys get into it the first 20 games or so. We've got a lot of rookies and guys who are gonna play a lot that didn't last year. It takes a while to get used to it."

Outshoot the Americans 22-8 in the third and can't even tie it at 1. Shades of that Mtl-Bos game last season. Habs totally outplayed the B's...but Raycroft stood on his head to win 1-0. Can't really blame Ellis for a 1-0 loss...but 0-6 won't do much for his confidence, or that of the Dogs when he's between the pipes. Planning on heading down to Copps for Saturday's game. If I do, I'll report what I see. CH
