First of all, for all you non-poker players out there (I can't believe there are non-poker players, but then again I'm a degenerate so what do I know) WSOP stands for World Series of Poker and is a series of poker tournaments held in Vegas. Every year one of the events at the WSOP is a Ladies World Championship. But wait....in Vegas it's against the law to discriminate against poker players based on sex (although they can discriminate based on age - they also have a Seniors' tournament that you must be at least 50 to play in, no exceptions). In past years there have been a few "men" (anyone who wants to play in a Ladies' tournament can't be a real "man") who have played in the Ladies' tournament.
This year the WSOP has come up with what I think is a clever way to try to prevent men from playing in the Ladies' Championship (and I'm pretty sure they've already determined it to be legal). The buy-in (entry fee) for the Ladies' tournament has always been $1,000. This year the buy-in will be $10,000. But if you are a lady, they will discount your entry fee by $9,000 so you only have to pay $1,000 to play. That may not stop all "men" from playing, but it will certainly make most of them think twice, since it will be hugh -EV (negative expected value) for a man to play.
;D
