Ferland, in his third appearance at Montreal’s rookie camp, captained the Canadiens to the final in the four-team tournament that wrapped up on Sept. 14 in Pierrefonds. His exuberant performances on the ice turned heads in the stands more than once over the four days of competition.
Trevor Timmins, the team’s director of player personnel, was pleased with Ferland’s rookie camp. He spoke of the youngster’s many plusses and mentioned one area essential to the development of the second-year pro.
“Character, grit, work ethic, physical presence, they’re all present in Jon Ferland,” he said. “He just has to work on his skating.”
