Not a rumour, just someone to discuss approaching the deadline.
Philly is struggling this year. They may well sell of pieces if they're completely out of it in a couple of weeks.
Our PK is awful. After 30 games, it's 17th and operating at 80.4 percent. I think it's our biggest weakness going into the playoffs. Max has always been a good penalty killer, and the Flyers are sitting 6th this year.
Max is a center, a tested playoff performer, a pest, plays a big game. He's in the second year of a five year deal with a cap hit of $1.75 million. His actual salary is a prorated $2.25 million this year. He makes $1 million in the last year of the deal. He's not a great faceoff guy, which needs to be addressed at some point, but he can be that shutdown guy we don't have.
Would you? How much would you offer?

I think we are set at center. Especially if Dumont continues to emerge.

that was my thought too, gnick . . . unless we lose one of DD, Eller, or Plecks.
for Talbot? no.

As a rental, and given where the club is in it's progression, I fully agree with staying away. Going forward, there's a 3 year commitment to Max. He'd give us a 4th line center, albeit a tad pricey, who's substantially better than White. He'd help to stabilize the PK. He'd add a significant piece to the playoff puzzle. He'd bring that for 3 years. He's also a Therrien guy, having played for him in Pittsburgh.
While I think Dumont could be a Talbot type, he's awful small for that sort of role. Heck, Talbot isn't big at 5'11 and 195lbs. IMO, Dumont isn't a guy you build around when you have centers the stature of ours.

...he'd be a good addition IMO. While he is a center, he can also play either wings. As BLNY said he'd definitely help the PK and he fits well in the "work hard every shifts" mentality that Therrien/Bergevin are pushing.
He also has great leadership quality and he's a playoff warrior.
I'd take him ahead of Moen, White, Armstrong, anyday.
Don't like the lenght of his contract though.

Don't like the lenght of his contract though. It is a bit of a sticking point, but after this year he and Moen have the same number of years remaining. Moen's cap hit is 100k more. Talbot is a year younger.

This is a tough one, Doc. He's 29, which is a bit older than I'd like, but his contract is ok and he's a -1 on a team that hasn't been that good this year. Giroux is at -9, which gives some scale. He averages .506 points a game in the playoffs, compared to .303 in the regular season, so he definitely is a playoff guy. I'd have to watch him on the PK to see what I think there, but as you say, he's an upgrade on Moen, though he's not as big as Moen. I don't have his faceoff stats except for the last 5 games and that's meaningless. I've always liked both him and Pascal Dupuis. The Berg is probably looking for that type of guy, but perhaps bigger and a bit younger.

Talbot's face off record this year is just under 48%. I don't know how many he's taken.

Weak on faceoffs is part I didn't like. As earlier in year was a problem here. But as 4th line winger he be okay. A 4th line winger doesn't have much trade value wouldn't give up any future as doubt he means much more to team than Moen. Moen is bigger and stronger although not the penalty killer Talbot is. Offer Moen straight up or if Philly wants something different offer Weber and late pick for Talbot then we deal Moen to get a pick back be good.

I'd rather do a Weber/pick deal. With Kaberle as the spare Weber is easily expendable. Moen's playoff experience, and timely goals, would be nice to keep around. That said, Moen has not been himself this season.

That said, Moen has not been himself this season. Don't know if there is ice time for everybody if you do that. Once the 3 injured forwards get back. If you trade Weber/late pick for Talbot somebody on back lines have to go. Prust be on Gals line, Des/Pac/Ryder. Team is set there. Pleks should be with Gio and Bourque they were the most successful together. Talbot of course, Dumont stays he's best faceoff guy we got. Leaves 3 guys for 1 spot. Armstrong, White, Moen. 4 if you count Blunden. Plus, Berg probably likes the draft pick they'll bring.

On NHL.com Go to stats, then individuals, and then change it to whatever team you want change the drop down report, from summary, to face offs. It gives you the number taken, the number won and lost, the number of even strength, pp and shorthanded faceoffs! Home and road faceoffs .... As far as I can see the only faceoffs stat not there is offensive, neutral zone and defensive faceoffs ...which would be easy

Not sure how it affects the rest of their trade plans but Meszaros & Coburn are out long term with rotator cuff/shoulder problems.

strike another: Talbot out with a lower body injury; couldn't put any weight on his leg after he hit the boards after missing a check.
