Another loss, but another goal for Kyle, on the PP, and 3rd star of the game. The first star, Mr Phaneuf, had 2 PP goals and a PP assist. Does no one know how to score at even strength anymore? The WHL is turning into a league where wins and losses are determined by your PP and PK. Kinda reminds you of the NHL, non? www.whl.ca/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1000214

Wasn't tomorrow wonderful? When I was reading up on Chipchura, Gainey's name kept popping into my head. A strange magic. Timmins headed the draft table last year and he will again this year. It is, however, traditional for a club's GM to make the first round pick. If Chipchura's name is on the short list (and it should be), and if he's available when Boss Bo clears his throat... Tsk tsk BC, relying on numbers to make a point? Here's a list of players and their stats for the junior season they began at 17 years of age. They were all drafted in the top 20. Only OHA and WHL players are represented. After each player's draft position the numbers indicate games, goals, assists and points. Mel Bridgman drafted #4 overall 4 1 1 2 Greg Malone #19 overall 62 11 45 56 Bobby Smith #1 overall 62 24 34 58 Al Secord #16 overall 63 9 13 22 Brent Sutter #17 overall 5 1 0 1 Ron Sutter #4 overall 72 13 32 45 Rich Sutter #10 overall 72 23 18 41 Dave Andreychuk #16 overall 67 22 22 44 John MacLean #6 overall 67 17 22 39 Keith Primeau #3 overall 48 20 35 55 Glen Murray #18 overall 62 8 28 36 Jason Arnott #7 overall 57 9 15 24 Shane Doan #7 overall 52 24 24 48 Kyle Chipchura ranked #4 North American 64 15 33 48 Chipchura will have time to put up numbers in junior. However, it's primarily his other qualities that got him ranked so high. Let's not forget that he dropped from #1 at mid-season to #4 at the end due to injuries. It would be sweet if the Habs were to draft him and he turned out to have an NHL career like any of the players listed above. Of course he could end up having just a cup of coffee in the NHL or not making it at all, like roughly half the players selected in the first round through the years. I prefer to sing: Chip chippery Chip chippery Chip chip chur-ah! 18 is as lucky As lucky can beMy point was that it's not unusual to draft someone (da-da-da-daa) who has had a mediocre point scoring season as a 17 year old; provided there are enough other blue chip skills in evidence (and it certainly does seem that Chipchura has those in spades - hence his high CSS rankings). Would it surprise me if Chipchura were to double his points output to 96 as an 18 year old junior? Of course not! Then I could say that after his so-so production as a 17 year old he out-produced solid first round NHLers such as Malone, Secord, Sutter x 3, Murray and Doan as an 18 year old. Oh Habby day! Numbers are good. Everyone should make numbers their friends. Though I hear Bettman and Goodenow are talking about abolishing the use of numbers in the NHL...I'll dig up that article sometime soon... ;D Thanks. In a way not a tough call. This should erase any doubt that Gainey is the man who decides the direction this team now takes. Second liner. Why not? Mr Chips will likely be a regular in the NHL before some previous Habs picks have finished cleaning the wax out of their ears. Not only will Mr Chips make the Habs at age 20, Gainey will sign Kostitsyn and Locke this summer. Heck, Flood and Urquhart will also get inked. Wonder if Kostitsyn will be a no-show at camp again? Good times...good times...

A very promising start indeed, for young Mr. Chipchura. But the road, as the Doobies would say, is still very long. One need only ask Messieurs Valis, Stevenson, Ryan, and Higgins (Matt), all of whom scored at over a point-per-game in the year after being drafted by nos glorieux. Even defenseman Brent Bilodeau scored at just under one-a-game.
Nonetheless, we have a much better scouting, evaluation, and most importantly, developmental staff, in place now. Very encouraging...

Remember, though, that in today's WHL, a point is worth more than it was 10 years ago. A PPG guy today is probably a better offensive player than their older counterpart.

1-0 PA over Kootenay at the end of 2. No points for Kyle. I'll try and update at the end of the game.
PS. That's how it ended. 1-0.

Chipchura will probably be a solid player and a Hab mainstay but 32-40-72 in the CHL doesn't project to a top 25 NHL scorer inasmuch as he would be competing with players from 30 teams (including some of his own teammates).

17 games, 7-10-17, +2, 24 PIM.
Involved in 45% of his team's scoring (17/38). A team, by the way, whose current record is 5-9-2-1 and who are, at this early stage of the season, already 10 points out of first place in their division.
Projections: 30-42-72, +8, 102 PIM.

saskhab at HF had this to say:
saskhab
Sorry, didn't tape the game. It might get replayed throughout the week, though, so we'll see.
Chipchura notes: Great 3 zone game for him. He's getting increasingly trusted for late faceoffs, though having Colliton (a RH shot) around means he's not in on every draw that the Raiders need. He ties up his man on the draw exactly how it should be done. He never lets the opposing centre get away.
He got an assist, but needs to dominate physically against opposing d-men. He's big enough to take advantage of the weaknesses on the Blades' D core, particularily since he is bigger and stronger than Mike Green, who plays nearly 30 minutes a night. The Blades generally had him lined up against Joe Barnes as the opposing centre, so strength was against strength. The Raiders tried to get Colliton out against the smaller Wacey Rabbit. Better line juggling might've allowed Chipchura to do more offensively, but that wasn't the case.
The Raiders lost in OT, but I couldn't tell if Chipchura was on the ice. The announcers said he was, but if he was he was playing the far wing and the puck never got to him. The Raiders sent 3 men in deep (presumably Colliton, Sietsonen, and Chipchura) and left their lone d-man out to dry as the puck squirted loose, leaving Keller and Rabbit to end the game early in OT.
When all is said and done, Chipchura needs two things to make it to the NHL: better foot speed to help him make quick moves in the offensive zone, and to fill out his frame to become more physically dominant. His hockey sense is way ahead of the curve, especially regarding positioning and use of the stick. I don't think he'll need much development time after his junior career is done.

Chipchura plays like another power forward, Steve Bernier who outplayed Crosby with a hat trick and four point night to lead the Wildcats over Rimouski 9 - 4. He better enjoy it now because he won't outplay Crosby for long.

Scored both goals in the 3rd period to win the game 3-1 after Beauchemin the goalie (first star) kept them in the game. Was a healthy scratch for the previous game. Rumours abound as to why. Wasn't wearing his usual "A" in last night's game. 19 games, 9-11-20, +2, 28 PIM. Has been involved in 48% (20/42) of Prince Albert's offense. Projections: 34-42-76, +8, 106 PIM.

Kyle's in a bit of a slump, with only one point in his last four games. He got benched and lost his A, not sure why though. Rumors are he mouthed off to the coach or that he missed a captains meeting. Either way a 3 pt game is a good way to come back after sitting out a game.

To stop all the BS is that he missed a meeting for the lettered players by sheer forgetfulness,,Anholt showed everyone is accountable and no one is above the team,,Guess it worked! Gotta like the post above..rumours and BS can quickly label a forgetful kid.

Another loss for the Raiders, to a weak Swift Current team. They outshot the Bronco's 2:1 but the back-up goalie must have been weak. Two goals on 12 shots and then replaced by Beachemin. Kyle had one assist. www.whl.ca/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1000304

23 games, 10-14-24, +3, 30 PIM.
Prince Albert is averaging 2.00 goals a game and has the second worst record in a 20 team league. Chipchura, despite playing with linemates who, as Trevor Timmins said, aren't "hyper-talented" and being accused of playing too defensive a game, has been involved in 50% (24/48) of his team's goals.
Projections: 30-42-72, +9, 90 PIM.
