Like this for Ottawa. Conacher looks like a good one. St Louis or Gallagher even type. great asset mgt. by Murray. He gets Bishop for a 2nd from the Blues & trades him for the guy leading all rookies in scoring. Bad move by Yzerman. Seems like desparation to me. Cooper, the new coach, had both Conacher and Johnson in Syracuse. Both small players. I guess Cooper chose Johnson - better skater. It would seem that Yzerman is prone to hedging bets on young goalies with small sample sizes. Bishop has been stellar for Ottawa this year. He was well regarded in the Blues system, but there was no room for him there.

don't think it's desperation, jkr. TBay needs a decent G; they now have one. Conacher may be a Turris clone that is frighteningly inconsistent and . . . well . . . frustrating.
definitely good asset management though

Minny pull Hackett and Larssen off ice ... been talking to BUffalo about Pominville.
Edit: Renaud Lavoie says deal for Pominville is done. Not sure if he's the only piece leaving Buffalo. Buffalo gets a good goalie prospect in Hackett, and Larssen is a lot like Granlund apparently.
Rangers have a deal in place to send Gaborik to Columbus (pending player approval).
Edit: Brassard, Dorsett, and Moore and 6th going other way. Gaborik agrees.

He did well for me, but that was the only year he's actually excelled. This is Holmgren swinging for the fences me thinks. Cheers.

I wouldn't have pegged the Rangers being sellers.

So you are giving me 3 out of the last 6 .... 50% is better than "not many". In 5 years. Carter had 13 points in 20 playoff games. Nothing Earth shattering. Kelly had 13 in 25 and won draws. That's the best of the group. TSN has showed a few (but not many) clips throughout the day of people acquired at or near the deadline who made an impact. Perhaps the greatest collection of clips was for that of John Tonelli. 27 years ago, the Flames got him from the Islanders. He had 16 in 22. How many cup winners can DIRECTLY attribute their winning the cup to the contributions of a deadline acquisition? Not a bit part. Not a guy who did little more than what someone else could have done with the same ice time. Someone who actually came in and lead the team to the promised land. But now you are changing the parameters. If you have to get someone to lead you to the promise land, then the team is usually in trouble. You use the deadline deal to add the missing pieces, typically. No one doubts the Habs have the talent/skill players ... what we need is the deterrents/grit, A second unit PP defenseman (if MB is hell-bent on not using Beaulieu), and a crease clearing defenseman. None of them need have been a big splash acquisition, even though I felt (and hey, I dont mind being in the minority) Ryane Clowe would have filled two needs in one by adding a little extra skill; but none would have LED us .... they would have complemented us. I dont think we needed a Drewiski ... unless he is the type that is strong enough to clear a crease but just doesnt hit. That would be a shame.

I understand that there are cap issues at play in Philadelphia, as per the TSN panel.
Deadline has passed.
Yay ...

I wouldn't have pegged the Rangers being sellers. they're not. What they're trying to do is replace the grit they lost when they let Prust go. Dorsett provides that, though I don't think he's as good a player as Prust. They better hope John Moore does well because on a talent basis, Gaborik is the best player in that deal and they've done the classic quality for quantity thing. Brassard hasn't become the scorer BC thought he might be , and Dorsett is mostly grit and protection. Moore is the wild card. Great skater, but does he have the skill and hockey IQ?

The Flyers continue to desperately seek a goaltending answer. Mason isn't it.

I wouldn't call the Rags sellers, though this deal does somewhat make up for the Nash one.
17 is right, and fwiw McGuire thinks highly of Moore. He's a skating, puck moving, defender. He's something the Rangers don't really have much of.

More deals trickling in:
Calgary trades Comeau to jackets for 5th rounder this year.
Raffi Torres leaves Phoenix for San Jose, 3rd rounder other way.
Leafs get O'Byrne from Avs for 4th rounder in 2014. **** I'd have done that deal.
Ducks get Lombardi from Coyotes for MacMillan
Devils get Sullivan from Coyotes for 7th
Bruins acquire Redden for 7th in 2014.

Jagr and Redden addressed two holes the Booins had. They may not be perfect answers, but they were answers. Meanwhile......MB is God.

What exactly is Redden going to provide? He going to come in and have a lovely reunion with Chara?

He's something the Rangers don't really have much of. So it works out to Nash, Moore, Dorsett, Brassard and a 6th for Gaborik, Dubinsky, Anisimov, Erixon. Certainly a little more balanced when evaluated as one deal.

Final word on Pominville deal:
Min/Buf trade: Sabres send Jason Pominville and a 4th in '14 to the Wild for Johan Larsson, Matt Hackett a 1st in '13 and a 2nd in '14.
That's A LOT. Larsson and Hackett are considered two really good prospects. First this year, and 2nd next. We'd have easily had to part with Kristo/Collberg, the equivalent picks, and something the Wild valued as much as Hackett. Pominville is a very nice player, but with one year left on his deal.

Latta seems to be held in fairly high regard. Forsberg is a strong prospect. There's some question as to whether he can score at the NHL level, but he's big, strong and has a very hard shot.
