I think this is worth a poll. I'm not surprised by the rumor. Gainey said a month ago that he is done evaluating the organization. Since then, Gratton, Plekanek and Balej have been called-up. Komisarek is still here instead of Hainsey.
Thus, there is a good possibility Hainsey and Hossa are not considered as being 'untouchable' for the right player. If you had to trade one, who would you trade?
I would trade Hainsey because Markov and Komisarek are top young Ds and I still feel Hossa can become a physical and productice second line winger (20 goals, 55 points). Flood, Korneev and Orkipari are also considered good offensive defensemen.

I would have to trade Hossa.
This is all based of course on the assumption that by trading Hossa, Gainey isn't looking for another defenseman but a rugged power forward.
Giving up Hossa for that is a no-brainer .... something we haven't had in a long time, something that is not down on the farm, something that in the draft is hit or miss.
Hainsey, however, is a tough defenseman. One or two years from now we will have spots opened up on our defense with Brisbois gone, and Quintal, gone and even Rivet.
Komarsarek, Beauchemin, abd Hainsey will make our defense dominating will they develop ..... a forward you trade for ... a defense you try like hell to keep .... for Theo's sake if nothing else.

I agree pretty much with Skilly on this one. Defencemen aren't a dime a dozen, especialy skilled defencemen. I have hopes that Hainsey can possibly develop into a good puck moving rearguard while I see to many prospects that are just as good as, if not better than Hossa. Given the chance, I would prefer to keep Hainsey and let Hossa go.

I agree, but could the Habs get something decent like say a Ryan Smyth for both?It will be interesting to see. I think we will see several moves. HFTO

I voted for Hossa, though there's a catch - for starters I think Hainsey is worth more.
More importantly, if you keep Hainsey you have to be pretty sure of what you're doing - you can keep a guy like Hossa (ie, unproductive forward who at least doesn't hurt you) on the 4th line and essentially wait for him to get his act together, but having dead weight on D is much, much harder.

Out of the two, I would rather trade Hossa. His floating, nonchalant approach to the game is something that I think will keep him from becoming the top-six forward that he was once projected to be. Also, I think that we have more quality forwards in the system, compared to quality d-men.
Players like Plekanec, Balej, Higgins, Perezhogin and Kastsitsyn will be knocking on the door soon, therefore it is easier to trade away a player like Hossa considering that there are many candidates to replace him.

I chose Hainsey because I believe, out of the 2, he's got the most trade value. Really, if you were a GM, what would you give up for Hossa at this point... mmm? Dangling Hossa might get us a short term average playoff rental but I don't believe this is the way I'd like this team to go. I don't mind trading Hossa as part of a bigger package in a team building move, but trading Hossa for trading Hossa wouldn't get us too far I think.
