Although there was chatter about the Nygren deal being in the works, the Habs officially announced both deals. Nygren is a 2 year deal due to his age (22), and Collberg is a three year deal. They could both end up in Hamilton in the fall, or they could remain in Sweden if the Habs agree to a loan with their SEL teams. They both are expected over at our development camp this summer. canadiens.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=671505canadiens.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=671503

Nygren comes highly touted. Borje Salming Trophy winner wasn't he?
Collberg is extremely talented as well. Question, though; how do Collberg and Filippe Forsberg match up? I know Collberg was a 2nd-rounder, but I haven't heard too much on how Forsberg is developing.
Anyone know more on Forsberg? He's not one of ours but I liked what he brought to the draft table.
Cheers.

Cheers. Nygren did win the SEL defenseman award. He has a huge shot and brings offensive skill from the back end. Collberg definitely was not as highly touted as Forsberg, who was the top ranked Euro skater last draft. Collberg did out score him at the world juniors in AB last year. Forsberg dropped to 11th to Washington last summer, which was quite unexpected. They then traded him to Nashville at the deadline in the Erat deal at the buzzer. Collberg dropped as well, and TT was very shocked to see him available at 33rd. Collberg brings speed and skill to the wing, so it should be interesting to see how he adapts in Hamilton. He still has a year of junior eligibility, so there should be no rush yet. Collberg, like Hudon, did not need to get signed until next summer. Glad to see the Berg not waiting around until the last minute. Nygren is one of a few guys that needed to get signed by this June 1st. Good to see that deal done.

Where are we with our 50 contracts for next year?

Where are we with our 50 contracts for next year? This puts us at 36, but that should go down one with the second buyout this summer. Hudon should go back to juniors, so that contract will slide to 2014-15. The same will happen if Collberg is returned to the SEL as he is also still junior aged. So we are likely really at 33 or 34 contracts before qualifying our RFAs this summer.

Cause we don't have our own Dev Camp thread, I'm posting it in this one. From what I've read at HF in all the reports about the Habs Development Camp, Sebastian Collberg was the best player on the ice. Maybe we are going to see a line Galchenyuk-Eller-Collberg this fall?
Regarding the question of Dis, someone with the nick Erik Estrada posted these stats: "Typical comments on Collberg: "He looks amazing and dominant but I don't get it when looking at his stats in Sweden".
The problem is people are comparing apples and oranges. All prospects play in several leagues that are tough to evaluate as a NA... However, if you compare his stats head to head against other top players and prospects from Sweden, you realize that his stats (his achilles heel) actually shows how exceptional a prospect he is...
This season (his post draft year) he played against men and scored more prorated goals than did Zibanejad and Silfverberg that year. The season before where he had 0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points againsts men (the real knock against him) they basically made him ride the pine or play little minutes.
Let's compare prorated points of top Swedish prospect in J20, all 1 year before the draft (they all played substantial games in that league)
1. Lindholm (#5, 2013): 42-16-41-57 2. Collberg (Habs): 42-25-28-53 3. Forsberg (#11, 2012): 42-25-22-47 4. Burakovsky (#23, 2013): 42-17-25-42 5. Silfverberg (Sens-Ducks): 42-11-17-28 6. Wennberg (#14, 2013): 42-1-18-19 7. Zibanejad (Sens): 42-6-6-12
Let's compare prorated points of top Swedish prospect in J18, all 2 years before the draft (they all played substantial games in that league)
1. Collberg (Habs): 22-18-22-40 2. Lindholm (#5, 2013): 22-10-28-38 3. Forsberg (#11, 2012): 22-14-8-22 4. Wennberg (#14, 2013): 22-8-12-20 5. Silfverberg (Sens-Ducks): 22-5-13-18 6. Burakovsky (#23, 2013): 22-7-6-13 7. Zibanejad (Sens): 22-4-4-8
