Lebrun is reporting that the Pens offered an 8 year, $56 million extension, and he turned it down. Pens didn't waste any time trading Staal when he balked.

I think he's nuts if he really turned that down. I wouldn't want him for that reason. I can't see that lack of realism or, perhaps, greed, translating into good character on the ice.

I think he's nuts too. If you're willing to pass up playing with Crosby and Malkin for the next 8 years because $7 million a year isn't 'enough', then you really need a strong dose of reality.
I don't doubt the validity of the report. Lebrun is not one to post baseless things.

Wow! I wonder how much Subban will be asking for...

Wow! I wonder how much Subban will be asking for... The lockout was fought to protect owners from themselves. The owners were giving too much money to the best players. Now they are buying out the most undeserving players and fighting to be king of the buyout castle. No sympathy for the owners or players. The fans are the ones paying for the folly and Bettmans quest to own money losing teams in southern markets. Then again the fans that blindly support their teams deserve what they get.

He's simply not worth it. He's not Drew Doughty, he's not Erik Karlsson and he's not PK Subban.

If he turned that down then he's getting really bad advice or he has a grossly inflated view of himself. Does he even think he gets a Norris nimination if he's not playing with Pitt. He won't put up a point agame without those guys around him. Staal balked at a contract offer last year & ended up on a non playoff team in Carolina. James Mirtle of he Globe was talking about this because, as usual, there are Letang to Toronto rumors. He shot them down because of the presence of Phauneuf. They both play the right side, they both want the PP minutes & lots of ice time & the Leafs have some decent offensive D men with guys like Franson, Liles ANd maybe Morgan Reilly. He feels Toronto needs defensive stalwarts. It just sounds like he is trying to force his way out of town. Must be hell playing on the PP with Crosby & Malkin.

Birds if a feather.

It just sounds like he is trying to force his way out of town. Must be hell playing on the PP with Crosby & Malkin. He has great skating, passing, and offensive instincts, however, he's also injury prone, undersized, and likely has benefitted from inflated career stats due to his teammates. A fine player, but not worth that kind of $$ IMO. It will certainly be a steep price to pay for the team that gives up assets and then has to hand over the cash that Letang wants.

I don't know if he was playing injured, or if he hadn't fully recovered from his Achilles injury, but IMHO he wasn't nearly as effective this year as he was in previous years. Still, even given that, I don't find him as complete a package as Subban. He's an excellent offensive d-man, but I find his defensive play to be suspect. He also isn't very physical. Neither is Letang for that matter. Like Karlsson, he's an excellent offensive d-man, but again, I don't find him as well-rounded as Subban. I'm not trying to be arrogant about our young star, but that's the way I see it. I feel Subban does it all and if Letang gets more than he turned down, I'm not so sure Subban will be affordable in Montreal, especially if he raises his game next year. (imagine that) Cheers.

Dis, I'm with you. Letang and Karlsson are rovers. Nothing wrong with that, but they can be very exposed in their own end. Subban is more physically able to play in his own end. He can take the hits. He can make the hits. He can play the physical game AND skate the puck out of his zone as effectively as Letang or Karlsson.

I read that Letang is interested in Toronto. However, Bob MacKenzie put a squash on that after he talked with Letang's agent. "We haven't discussed the Toronto Maple Leafs. Period." www.cbssports.com/nhl/blog/eye-on-hockey/22538832/nhl-rumors-kris-letang-would-perfer-maple-leafs-if-traded (link) Cheers.

Looks like they may have a deal done. Renaud Lavoie says it's done, Pierre Lebrun says there's a couple of details to work out. Should be 8 years and $7.25 million per. There's the bench mark for Subban.

Yeah, the dollar amount isn't surprising especially for a Norris trophy candidate. It sets the bar for PK, though, as I'd rather have Subban than Letang.
