Bergevin was quite poignant when he stated that they had traded for a kid "with good character". I don't know if that was a shot at Kristo or not, but where there is smoke... You're right here. I thought maybe he didn't have a chance with us, but after reading your findings I guess he never really gave himself a chance. Well, good luck to the kid. Hope he sees the light in NY. Cheers.

While I agree with you Cranky, it takes two to tango and I doubt very much that the Avs were ready to move Bordeleau for Kristo. Just the same, I doubt MB would be willing to trade Prust against Mason Raymond for example even though Raymond would appear to have more "talent". The Avs value Bordeleau as much as I do. I just wished MB did the same. I'm not a GM and I don't have a team of people around me that report who is what and where, but was there NOWHERE where we could pick up a ton of grit for....White/Kristo and a 3? Would the Avs do it? We will never know...and I'm not holding on to too much hope either.

At this point I think its not so much about trading for the known commodity but rather engage the pro scouting staff in finding the next budding uber goon and hopefully convince the unsuspecting GM to trade him. I'm sure there are other "Bordeleau" out there that are itching at the chance to prove their worth in the big show. It's up to us to find them...

if Kristo had all the off ice issues that we could find out by googling his name then you know all other hockey minds know his history. He likely wasn't in the Habs plan and being a 23 year old with a handful of AHL games he likely wasn't going to bring more then a late draft pick or a similar player in respect to age and experience. It may be a lateral move only but it clears out a headache and brings in a guy that may be a late bloomer. Steve Thomas wasn't a big player but was a hard worker and a natural goal scorer so if his son is the same then he may earn a spot on the roster or at worst be a good AHL player, either way if Kristo was never going to play for the Habs then what is lost?

Back in wifi land again, so might as well getting back into this post first and work through the draft stuff. Have lots on that topic!
First, I am a Kristo fan, but his never ending off ice decisions were wearing a little thin. I still saw him as a viable competitor for Gionta's spot if he had a good year in Hamilton this year. He is a flashy player, and has some sweet dangles. He can score some beauty's and compile a nice highlight video. He is still very slight though and not sure how his weak lower body strength will do in the pros.
This is not a McDonagh part two trade though. In fact it is as close to a wash for me with some intangibles thrown in that give a slight edge to the Habs. Thomas has character, can fly out there and has an effective laser of a shot. He has the pedigree that more and more are attaching value to, including the Berg, as he has grown up with an NHL dad who will have past along what it takes to play 20 years in the show. He gives away a couple of inches to Danny, but has much better strength and balance suited to the pro game as a small guy. He is also two years younger and already has a full AHL season (a pretty good rookie campaign too) and even played one NHL...against the Habs!
At first glance I wasn't sold on this but mainly because we have waited so long to finally see Kristo. Now, Christian will definitely help the Dogs where they need it most...scoring goals.
