A decent development camp got him a one year AHL deal. Strong character player.

Cool. Habs are closing in on 46 contracts i believe once the RFAs (White, Dumont, Tokarski) get done so they have to be stingy with the NHL contracts at this point. I think the organization still needs to bring in at least 2 d-men...1 at the NHL level and one AHLer.

Does this contract count against the Habs 50? It's not linked to the Habs (like a two-way deal). To my understanding, it's strictly a minor league contract. Montreal doesn't own his rights.

Correct...sorry that's what i was trying to get at with my original post. He can help Hamilton and not count against our 50 contract limit.

It's funny, because he did not seem to stand out at the development camp but they have had an eye on him for a little bit now. They had at him Dogs camp last year and I think he scored their only goal in three games.
Doesn't cost against the 50 limit but helps to keep a close eye on him to see if a NHL deal is warranted in the future. A freebie.

The kid has been a vital leader on two consecutive Mem Cup winners. He can score at the CHL level, but was well rounded enough to assume a more defensive role for the Mooseheads as needed. I don't see him making it as a top 6 player, but he could be that 3rd line guy who shuts people down with smart, physical, play. It's a low risk, high reward situation.

The Dogs just added defending Q scoring champ Ben Duffy to a one year AHL/ECHL deal he becomes the third Habs camp invitee to get a pro deal out of this camp.
He was on a line in the final day scrimmage with Collberg and Nystrom and they were on fire. The kid is undersized and takes almost no penalties, so he is minor pro depth for sure.
Now the Dogs need a couple of AHL vet defenders to round out their lineup.

When you invite that many players without affiliation, and are able to sign 3 based on their play, you've done well imo. I wonder if former Hab Gordie Dwyer - Rocket head coach - had anything to do with the invite. Duffy is listed as 5'10 and 165lbs. If he can manage to add some mass, you never know. He had two 80 plus point seasons before this season. Clearly, he's got some offensive skill. This one clinched the league scoring title. Skating looks decent. Slick puck handler.
