Ferland has the Dogs up 3-2 after 2.
The second period continued to be a soft spot with the Dogs outshot 20-9 today, 13-7 yesterday and 17-8 on Friday; 50-24 in the first 3 games. The good news is that the team has come out and outplayed the opposition in the third period thus far into the season.

Danis has allowed 3 softies. 3-3 game.
Announcer having conniption fits about Danis coming out of the crease to handle the puck: "That's 4 times he's almost lost he puck!"

Did anybody here go?

I was at the game. Not sure why Locke got the first star. Danis did let in a few soft ones but he made some huge saves. Milroy played a pretty solid game too.
Good start to the season.

Thinel is tearing it up, points in back to back games for the former ECHLer. He's getting some strong icetime with Locke and Ferland, that line was great today.

As was Duncan Milroy. Course, both Milroy and Hainsey are apparently playing leadership roles, and according to NWT Hab (who actually saw the game), Hainsey is taking his leadership mantle to heart, in the early going at least. Course, that doesn't translate well into stats, right?

Course, that doesn't translate well into stats, right? NWT saw the 2 Edmonton games. Hainsey may be handling the weight of leadership that has been put upon him, and that is a good thing. Hainsey, and to a much lesser degree Milroy, is a main focus of attention for both Habs fans and management. -2 is never a good stat but easier to take if it comes in a victory rather than a loss. It's early days yet...

It's early days yet... Spezza is -3 in two games (0 points), has been (and still is) a reason of concern for the Senators. And is also supposed to be a leader on his team. I would take him anyday of the week. I would say that we need a few weeks before having a general look. I mean, Thinel is the Dog's leading scorer! But it's definitly great to see the AHL season beginning, as it should be very interesting, especially for us Habs fans : how will Kostitsyn adapt ? will Milroy become the leader and the scoring winger the Habs drafted ? will Hainsey be successful in his leader role ? will Danis be a threat to Théodore ? and is Thinel our next scoring machine ?

Game report by STOKA at habfans:
The game was rather sloppy and somewhat uneventful. Reason being, this was the THIRD game in THREE days for BOTH clubs. One could easily notice Hamilton and Manitoba were slowing down by the third period. The Bulldogs were in Edmonton for back-to-back matches. Manitoba had games in Rochester and Cleveland prior to arriving in the Steel City. That's good for the players nor the fans.
COMMENTS:
Chris Higgins: Scored a beautiful shorthanded goal and was a presence at both ends of the ice.
Corey Locke: Lacks the speed a smaller player should possess in oder to survive. But, his smarts and creativity were evident. Especially on a powerful wrist shot that beat Manitoba's (36 year old) Wade Flaherty.
Gavin Morgan: Nothing fancy. Just plenty of physical play and determination. Didn't do so well in a fight.
Michael Lambert: While he didn't quite stand out. Lambert has the necessary tools to progress at this level and maybe beyond.
Tomas Plekanec: I don't believe he registered a point. Like Higgins, Plekanec was everywhere on the ice and is talented.
Ron Hainsey: Not a bad game. Nothing exciting either. Because of his experience, he looked fine. Made some smart passes. Falling down in front of his own net cost the Bulldogs a goal.
Yann Danis: Looked solid. Nice reflexes. Let in one weak goal. Had 30+ saves.
Dan Jancevski: Former Dallas draft pick who was signed by Hamilton. Steady physical game.
Duncan Milroy: Scored the winning goal. Hot and cold shifts. Seems to be lacking something. Don't know what?
Andrei Kostitsyn: Nothing spectacular today. I expected more. Although, he's a fine skater and handles the puck well.
Jonathan Ferland: Rugged and dedicated played. Popped in a cheesy goal.
Marc-Andre Thinel: Played well. A decent AHLer. As he should be. This is his third season of semi-pro hockey.
Notes: Matt Shasby, Andrew Archer and Raitas Ivanans weren't that noticeable. Sometimes that's not a bad thing.
It concerns me that Cory Urquhart hasn't been inserted into the line-up yet. J.P. Cote, who was the top plus/minus on Hamilton last season, didn't play. Likely an injury.
As mentioned before on this site. Jason Ward will sign a contract with Hamilton in the very near future. Like Hainsey, Ward will avoid waivers. He'll be a nice addition.
I saw Claude Julien there. Obviously on a scouting mission.
In QMJHL action, Hab draft pick Loic Lacasse earned a shutout after he stopped all 35 Drummondville shots to help lead Baie-Comeau to a 4-0 victory. Lacasse improves his record to 5-3-2.
Despite being blanked 2-0 by Moncton. P.E.I.'s (and Canadiens prospect) Maxim Lapierre was named third star. That's saying something.
At this point, it looks as though Kyle Chipchura's Prince Albert Raiders are about to be shutout by Brandon. One period left.
