Nygren has left the Dogs and goes boack to play in the SEL. This is the second prospect this week to leave the Dogs, Nystrom also left for the KHL...
Something not right is going on down there since Lefebvre took over...
In 2 years Leblanc has incredibly regressed. Tinordi, Beaulieu, Pateryn are not progressing. Kristo who looked awful there in his short stint last year is a fireball now that he's in Hartford. Dumont is unrecognizable. Bournival looked average in Hamilton and has litteraly reborn in the NHL away from Hamilton. Now 2 prospect chose to leave the farm...
...clean house please.

I posted on the other thread and I agree a lot of this could be tied to the coaching, management situation in Hamilton. I also think some European kids have a hard time playing in the minors in North America. Small towns, the buses, no friends and family. Emelin decided that he'd rather play at home in Russia and wait for the contract from Montreal rather than do a 2 year stint in Hamilton. Nygren probably feels the same way. Is the AHL that much better than the SEL? I think this will become more common among European prospects who see little value in moving to NA just to play in the minors. I hope the Habs stay positive with this kid because I've been hearing good things about him. Seems to have a very polished game.
But I agree with your larger point. If you evaluate a farm team and coach based on how well it develops prospects, then it's hard to find an example where Lefebvre has been a success. And if guys are regressing and just plain bolting...... That needs to be fixed.

I don't know how Nygren looked with the Dogs....but last year he was the Salming Trophy winner as best dman in the SEL.

And he was decent in pre season. At least I think so considering he was adjusting to smaller ice, different continent, culture etc.
Yep, just what kind of development is happening in Hamilton? Bournival is a great example as is Leblanc who looks ok at the Nhl level, but can't perform at the AHL level?

It isn't as if playing good minutes in the SHL is going to stall his development, but it does not help him in adapting to the smaller rink, faster pace, and more physical play. In the end, he is still under contract until the end of next season and can be qualified as he will be a RFA after this deal. If he really flourishes back home there will always be an opportunity here if management so desires a la Emelin. He has at least had the taste of one NHL camp and I am sure management has been clear on what he has to keep working on once he is back in Sweden. It is just a shame to see a European player bolt back home so soon after coming over. Hopefully Collberg, DeLaRose and Lekhonen are a bit more tolerant of life in Hamilton!
It does leave the Dogs minus a top four defender though. I expect they will try and sign someone to fill that hole for the rest of the season.

Best defenseman in the SEL? Is that like Reto Berra for the Flames who was apparently "the best goalie not in the NHL" last year? He's not that good here.

I'm sure this was noticed by the likes of Collberg and de la Rose, who will not doubt be getting a download of what happened from Nygren. Will they want to come over and play in Hamilton if they have no realistic shot at making the team? I think the other thing to consider is that Nygren is 23 years old (drafted when he was 21). Perhaps he was hoping that being a more mature prospect with less to learn would help him with getting a look from the Habs, but at a minimum he was behind Tinordi, Beaulieu, and probably Pateryn in terms of call-ups. Maybe he felt he was better than all of those guys and maybe he thought Lefebvre was a moron.
He could have stuck it out, but maybe going back to Sweden gives him better leverage to either a trade or a contract offer next year. It worked for Emelin who didn't come over to NA until he was 24, but the KHL is probably the best league outside the NHL.

I wonder if it something as simple as it is an Olympic year and these guys decide to play at home to get the exposure to make the national teams. Its not like they were going to be called up and stick with the Habs so may as well play this year at home, especially as a 21-22 year old.
