Sunday afternoon game at home to conclude another busy weekend for the Dogs. Dogs are down 2-1 on about 5 minutes into the second period. Dogs' only goal is from Kostitsyn, his second of the season. Danis in the net for this tilt, the third of the young season between these two teams.

Pleky nets the winner it OT on his 8th shot of the game, as Dogs heavily outshot the RoadRunners and finish the weekend with 3 out of a possible 6 points. Another O/T game, but still that shoot-out remains elusive!!

Nice to see all of our goal-scorers scoring. I just may go see them next weekend.

Longer story on the game from Canoe.ca. It is humourous to hear Jarvis say Locke was 'rested' yesterday and had stronger legs today as a result. Yup, those 20 year olds need their rest. Sigh, the spin coaches have to put on to keep the atmosphere positive. Wouldn't it be refreshing for someone to say "Well, Johnson stunk up the joint two games ago, so we sat him out yesterday and the move seems to have generated some real energy in him." I don't know if that's the reason Locke sat out the earlier game, but those kinds of comments would be fun, because they're honest. Jarvis' actual comments maintain the player's self esteem in public, so you wouldn't want to handle it any differently, unless you're a callous, self-righteous disciple of Attila the Hun, like me. Hey, nice to see Kostco getting some more points. Now it looks like we'll have the Beep-beep's number this season. slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Hockey/AHL/2004/10/24/683791-cp.html

If only Kostitsyn can pick up points against the other teams....

"I thought Andrei Kostitsyn had his best performance," said Hamilton head coach Doug Jarvis. "It's encouraging when you see a couple of the younger players jump in like that and have strong games." It's even more encouraging for Jarvis to be working hard with Kosty and him starting to see some early dividends from his youngest charge. Jarvis will likely never make Kosty into a Selke candidate, but at least he will make him a lot better in both ends of the rink. Jarvis has a plan for this kid, and although it may frustrate some of the armchair GM's to watch Kosty only get limited ice time, I guarantee that Jarvis will be more and more generous as young Kosty develops. Since Ward's return, the following combos seem to be building some good chemistry together: Ward-Pleky-Milroy Higgins-Locke-Kosty

I'm in favor of working Kostitsyn in slowly. He has a lot of adjustments to make. If he's smart he'll absorb what he sees while he's on the bench and put it to good use later.
