Between now and the Summer, MacT would like to make significant moves. Those moves will likely include attempts to move Smyth, Hemsky and Gagner before the deadline and could include Yakupov around the draft. video.oilers.nhl.com/videocenter/console?catid=4&id=545043&lang=enFirst bit discuss draft. I bring it up because it would appear there's still considerable smoke around the notion of trading Yakupov. Would you? How much would you offer?

I wouldn't give much for him....he's not a player you build a team around....more of a support guy.

I wouldn't call moving Smyth or Gagner significant & don't have a lot of interest in Hemsky.

I don't think Yakapov is much of a support guy, either. he's taken too many lessons from Ya$hin and Ali [floats like a butterfly]. can he learn? I don't want to take that chance.

Others are overrated to me

Yak would definitely be high risk, high reward. His stock has definitely fallen. If I were to take a chance on him (and reuniting him with Galchenyuk), this might be the year I'd do it and center it around our first rounder this year. First round pick, blue chip prospect, and maaaaaaaaaaaybe another pick in a later round (2nd). We'd be hard pressed to add that sort of top end talent without tanking completely.

I can't access the link from here at work, but what Edmonton is missing is veteran leadership. Smyth, Hemsky and Gagner are veterans, sure, but on the surface, at least, that young team in Edmonton has gone nowhere with them.
And if the they do manage to land some good veteran leadership, then I think that young team will come around in a big way. More specifically, while Yakupov has great skills, he's made some pretty immature decisions since coming into the NHL. He's still a bit immature (like most young pro athletes), but I think he'd develop a lot better with the right kind of mentoring in place.
Maybe that's the direction McT is going ... dunno.
Cheers.
