3-1 almost immediately. Great response. And they're dominating territorially.
Two goals from defencemen. Weber and Doughty (he's in my pool).
Cheers.

How could Price not see that guy behind him. Poor puckhandling for sure. How many times have I seen that this season. He has a rep for being a good puck handler but I don't share that opinion. Seen too many mistakes that lead to good chances. I tend to agree. Half of being a good puck handler is the decisions you make. He makes his fair share of poor ones. In that instance it's hard to say whether he was getting direction from the D, and if it was contradictory. Might have froze him just long enough. He's also trying to get engaged in the game and feel a part of it. It's very hard to do in a game like this. As for the game in general, it's about as I expected. Norway is plucky. They lack any real finishers, but they've got team speed and Thoresen and Zucarello are fine players. On this ice, team speed and work ethic competes well against a team that has skill but may lack a little speed.

Strong coaching staff, too. Bylsma, Laviolette, Richards, Granato. Was listening to TSN 1200 yesterday. They were interviewing a lady from the Canadian women's hockey contingent (forget who it was) and she mentioned that the biggest difference in the latest CAN/USA match was coaching. I guess Kevin Dineen (sp?) has an entirely new, fresh approach to the team and the ladies responded to him big time. It's the way he approaches practices, the way he prepares for a game, all of which he learned as a professional in the NHL. This lady said that, for the first time in a long, long time, the Americans were simply out-coached. Nice to hear that for a change. Cheers. I think that may have been Tessa Bonhomme

Would have liked to see a larger spread in the score, but I'll give Norway some credit. They were being dominated but they never once stopped skating hard. They were in rope-a-dope mode territorially, but they kept the game close.
The Yanks look strong. They outclassed the Slovaks today.
Cheers.

Other than the puck handling booboo, I thought Carey had a decent game considering he had long stretches of inactivity, which are very mentally tough on a goalie. I don't think he hurt his chances to be the number one guy from the Finland game onwards.
This team needs to bury its chances.
Patrick Chan and the Japanese skater in a league of their own.
Tough day earlier for the defending gold medal men's short track relay team as one fell so they don't make the final.

Even TSN Toronto didn't think Price hurt his chances at being the #1....or at least to start in Sunday's Game 3 vs. Finland.
They said the GA was a miscommunication between Price and the d-man. Opening game adjustments.

Swedish men's hockey team now without H. Sedin, Zetterberg and Franzen. Zetterberg has a herniated disc. Unsure if that happened in Sochi or if it's been an ongoing thing.

Swiss giving the Swedes all they can handle. Sweden as just scored to make it 1-0. Swiss dressed 8 dmen. Swiss play honest, but don't have much offense.

Turned the channel when it was 6-0. Carter with the natural hat trick. Weber and Doughty with goals in consecutive games. Haven't noticed PK all that much. Luongo with no work to this point.
Watching Patrick Chan right now. One slip so far ... two slips ... the Japanese skater just before Chan had a couple of similar misses ... third slip for Chan ... total score for 17.10 and they're saying it's a silver.
Back to the game I guess.
Cheers.

Just watched Denny Morrison take the overall lead in the men's 1500 long track speed skating.
Edit: Morrison just dropped to 2nd behind a Polish skater.
Edit: A bronze for Morrison.
Cheers.

Jennifer Jones and her team is still undefeated at 6-0.
Cheers.

USA takes out Russia 3-2. I didn't see the game but I guess the net came off by a centimetre and the go-ahead goal scored by the Russians was disallowed. TJ Oshie with four goals in the shootout. Cheers.

Love to see a replay of that. CBC's highlight pack was just the entire shootout. Remarkable performance for Oshie.
Slovenia wins their first ever Olympic hockey game 3-1 over Slovakia. Kopitar with 3 goals. Slovakia look horrible. They were one of my dark horse teams for a medal going in (Canada, USA, Russia, Sweden, Finland, Czech Rep, Slovakia all had shots at a medal imo). Slovakia might not even make it out of their group.

Oshie scores four in SOCheers. Edit: Note that Ovechkin stayed on the bench in favour of Kovalchuk and Datsyuk.

Jan Hudec ends a 20-year alpine drought with a bronze in the men's super-G. Jennifer Jones goes to 8-0. USA looking strong against Slovenia. 5-0 to this point in the game. Germany still on top with 7 gold. Cheers.

Dominique Maltais wins a silver in women's snowboard cross event. Team Canada tied for third in overall medal count, but listed in sixth because there are teams with more golds. Whose idea was it to list teams by gold medals anyway? Silly.

LOL. I still think overall medal count should reign supreme. I was surprised to find that to be honest. I always thought it was by medal count too. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing the standings that reflected total medal count. Cheers.

Both Jennifer Jones and Brad Jacobs have qualified for the four team playoffs. That was a huge win for Brad today as he knocked the Chinese out of second and Canada moved into that spot. Top two is key after the round robin as the playoff format has a 1 vs 2 game, with the winner advancing to the final and loser playing the winner of the 3 vs 4 game.

Boouwmeester's inclusion gets a lot of flack, but he'll be great on big ice. The man can skate better than 95% of the league. He had horrible coaching in Calgary and seems to have done quite well under Hitchcock. That could be Habernac. He's played better than I expected, but still has some warts with that final step (he checked a guy really nicely today against Finland and then failed to clear the zone by about a foot. So close.

I was asking that question the other day. Absolutely horrible showing.
Canada's medal count up to 15. Virtue and Moir with silver in Ice Dance. 8th overall based on gold medals. Tied for third in overall medal count. Russia and USA have 18, Netherlands with 17, Canada and Norway with 15. Germans listed first overall with 7 gold and 12 medals overall.

Charles Hamelin crashes ... again ... too bad because he had a chance at multiple medals. He still has a gold to his credit.
A silver in the Women's 3,000-metre short-track relay, though.
Cheers.
