Lawes struggled the whole bonspiel ... Jennifer Jones cemented her legacy as the best woman's curler ever. Hadn't had a chance to watch other matches start to finish. Lawes is very young. Oh I like her ... probably one of my favourite women curlers to watch. I was surprised when she stopped skipping (after her junior career) to join King (then later Jones).

Nearing end of second period ... Canadian women showing a lack of speed and offensive finish. The latter is unfortunate, cause Vetter hasn't looked all that good.

Poulin makes it 2-2! It didn't look like the girls had a chance. The Americans are a strong checking team.
15 minute intermission. What a game!
Cheers.

You're all effing welcome lol. I stopped after 2-0. I'm torn about watching the OT lol. If I do, they're bound to lose. Either way, incredible effort to come back and tie.

I was only listening to it while I am working ... i thought I heard that the puck deflected off a referee and then went off the post??? I tried to find the highlight, but I listened to the announcers make a big deal about "what if that had gone in" . If it deflected directly off a referee and then into the net, it would have been no-goal. If so, I'm surprised they didnt know that rule.

I'm really hoping this penalty doesn't decide the gold. That would be terrible.
Cheers.

Wickenheiser looks lost out there ... no drive in her at all.
So far, Canada playing like individuals and the Americans playing like a hungry team
Americans to the PP now ... 4 on 3 ... uh-oh

Nice job ladies! 4-straight gold medals!
The American women look like they've had their hearts ripped out of them. [#thinking of soccer]
If the men can't draw inspiration from that ...
Cheers.

Kudos to Kevin Dineen. He took a team in disarray and gave them the structure and leadership they needed.

I heard the female colour analyst say it was a great gesture the other night when Dineen gave his credit card to the girls and said Go out....have some dinner and some drinks....it's on me.
Very important, she said, to let the girls relax.
Also heard Jenner, post-game, agreeing with the interviewer that Dineen made those great changes with under 4:00 to go to get something going.
A game for the ages.
If it was a movie, we'd say...."Yeah right....like THAT could happen."
I don't feel sorry for the Americans pulling a Leafs-collapse at all.

Yeah, my high school volleyball coach paid for a team dinner ... then went and charged it to the school :-) Seriously, getting a guy like Dineen into the mix really helped the entire program. Gogie mentioned Dineen's leadership. Even his approach to business made a difference. Cheers.

I've reviewed the replay of the Wickenheiser breakaway that drew the final penalty.....and if it'd been the other way around, I think we'd be quite angry.
The outside of the American's right skate moving forward hit the inside of Wickenheiser's right skate coming back, forcing Hailey's leg further to the right. Over-compensating to stay on balance, she fell.
There was no other contact made...certainly no crosscheck.
It could be argued that it's a "tricky" way to trip somebody. (Canada's take.)
It could also be argued that it's incidental contact. (USA's take.)
Both have merit.

Here's the play by play from the CBC website. Hilary Knight (USA) took a crosschecking penalty only 16 seconds after Jocelyne LAMOUREUX (USA) went off for a slash. However, she went off only 6 seconds after Catherine Ward (CAN) was called for crosschecking (and it was quite the hit, too). I watched the replay and I didn't see the crosscheck. Having said that, while I try my best not to mention the officiating, I felt the officiating for this Olympic final was terrible. I also felt the British referee, Joy Tottman, was in over her head as the game became more contentious near the end. Feel very good for the women, though. You have to wonder if Kevin Dineen is now on the radar with a few NHL teams looking for a coaching change. As JKR mentioned, he was born in Quebec City and it would be interesting to see if he speaks French. Cheers.

It was 3-on-3 when it occurred. So they reverted back to a 4-on-3 PP for Canada, during which the golden goal was scored.

She took a whack at Szabados's pads after a save. Didn't look out of place in NHL terms.
CBC's colour said she had been warned about it earlier making it a pretty easy call at that point.
