Miller should find it a bit easier behind that defense....but has he got what it takes to put the Blues over the top? Elliott's been solid, though. And the Blues get tougher with Ott. Going for it, dealing from a position of strength. I'm envious.
What happened to Halak? If he lost favour with the Blues, how's he going to fare in Buffalo?
The Sabres are looking forward to McDavid, I think.
Fire sale coming.

First rounder is next year. Third is 2016. It's UFA goalie for UFA goalie. UFA Ott for Stewart with a year left. Prospect and picks. IMO, Halak and Miller are a wash. Ott for 4 pieces?

The Blues should remain a top tier team, so they shouldn't be high round picks, but still. I think it's overpayment for Ott.

Looks like the Blues are making a serious cup run. They have the defense that Miller can work with.

If Ott can get that much, trade Markov now.

If Ott can get that much, trade Markov now. No kidding. And see what Gionta can get you.

Miller is a big upgrade on Halak. Not a wash at all.

So the Blues turn Eller into Miller .... Why can't our GMs get such value?

When you're going to finish dead last, might as well really make the most of your assets for the rebuild. except the Sabres are winning -- again. may be 3 in a row. if they keep this up the Oilers will be able to draft another forward with their #1 overall pick

So the Blues turn Eller into Miller .... Why can't our GMs get such value? because we'd rather let our UFAs play out the season and walk for nothing

Halak was mostly a throw in due to roster/salary issues. The sabres do this deal without him. Ott by himself gets a mid to late first rounder this year, everything else over and above that is due to Miller. A ufa goalie.

I don't really see Miller as a huge upgrade. I don't think he puts them over the top. I've never seen him as the big money goalie some do. Yes, Buffalo have been bad for a while, but I haven't seen Ryan steal many games recently. Halak is 5 years younger, and it's entirely possible he could sign an extension with the Sabres if he likes the fit. Halak has shown what he can do with a weaker team in front of him, and he was 24-9 this year with a .917 save pct and 2.23 gaa. Playoff pedigree is a wash between the two.
IMO, getting Steve Ott to come in as your third line center has a bigger impact. An already tough, physical team, just got tougher.

If Miller signs long term with Blues, or they get to the Western Conference finals, the 3rd rounder in 2016 turns into a 1st rounder in 2014 which (given Where the Blues will draft) is equal to a 3rd rounder in 2016.

Miller trade no doubt raises what we will get if Markov moves. St.Louis just improved and Miller when for more than was expected.

I'm tired of being the team that is looking to buy an expensive rental through trade at TD. We finally have some UFA's that could fetch something in return. We won't win the cup this year. Nor the Next. Why not fetch some young talent that will hit it's stride in a couple of years?
