TMZPre-Seinfeld, Leno, Letterman, Shandling.....Brenner ruled the 70s and into the 80s in stand-up. He and Robert Klein were inspirational contemporary masters at their craft. Thanks for all the laughs, David!

Important to note that back when Brenner was starting out, there were only 3 big networks in the U.S.
NBC was the only network to have a late-night talk show. The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson.
If Johnny called you over to the panel after your set, you'd made it.
One of the last comics to soar from that experience was Drew Carey.
He said his career took off overnight.

Just found Brenner's Tonight Show debut....Jan. 8, 1971....a month shy of turning 35.
