Ahhh Terry Ryan. He always thought of himself better than he actually was .... and I blame his father for that. He could have been real good, if he bided his time, I think after his EPC he could have caught on elsewhere and did real well, but it appears that the Habs had no intention on developing him. I believe that when he played for the St. John's Maple Leafs, the Toronto Maple Leafs tried to see if they could sign him away from the Habs, but the Habs would have none of it. I question Ryan's memory. He NEVER fought Tie Domi. He had four NHL fights (Houda, Boughner, Barnaby, and Cam Russell) It was the fight against Russell that probably ended Ryan's chances with the Habs, it was his last shift and game with the Habs, in any event. I have to laugh at one person who commented on the story. He recalls a playoff game against Buffalo, Ryan was too slow to get to the puck to slide it past Hasek who was down .... However, Terry Ryan didn't play a single NHL playoff game. Its also funny that the scouts didn't interview him, nor know who he was (to look at, confusing him with Shane Doan??) and still used their first round choice on him .... I realize their number one choice (Doan) was off the board, but if they were confusing him with Doan, that sort of implies they didnt interview Doan either. And we wonder why our drafting was so poor back then?

Re Domi, what of pre-season? Dark times they were.

Re Domi, what of pre-season? Dark times they were. I guess that's possible blny ... but he did say he only played one shift to fight Domi. If that's the case, why play him in the pre-season at all?

That's a good find, BLNY. I never knew about this. I remember hearing on draft day that there seemed to be a letdown at the Habs table when Shane Doan was selected by Winnipeg. With the very next pick they chose Terry Ryan, and seeing how they had to announce his name on the podium it doesn't make sense that the organization thought they were getting Doan.
Honestly, it sounds like maybe Doug Robinson had brain fart. Was he on the floor/on the stage when Ryan was selected? Was he even listening to the selection?
Maybe Robinson got it wrong, but I find it hard to believe that the entire organization was clueless.
Cheers.

Again possible, ... , but I have a hard time believing he'd lament the woes of his NHL career using pre-season examples. Then again, it is Terry Ryan
