The baby Leafs romp against an undisciplined, disheartened herd of bovines exhibiting their futility in their home pasture. Even Yann Danis cannot save them from self-destruction. They stood out only in the penalties they amassed, taking 11 against 5. Alas, the 3-1 win they recorded a couple of nights ago was a teaser, a blip on their relentless spiral toward last place. Doug Jarvis must be consoling himself with private religious piety at this time because his sermons to the heathen fall upon deaf ears. And so it continues.

One step forward, seven-hundred-thousand steps back.

Sometimes the ingredients betray even the best chef. As long as the recipe isn't lost. BTW, it seems to be a virtually universal observation by fans on other boards who have regularly seen Bulldogs games that Kostitsyn's defensive play has improved an order of magnitude since Jarvis has had him slaving on the fourth line for most of the first quarter of the season. Besides you don't lose a gift like he has just because the teacher gives you extra homework. Look for the kid to hit his stride around the midway point of the season. AK factoids: His girlfriend has been experiencing repeated visa problems in trying to come over here. Got to be very tough on both of them. It appears that Ivanans was signed for double duty 1) as schoolyard bully 2) as Kostitsyn's Big Brother and minder.

How did Locke and Higgins manage to maintain an even +/- record at this stage when just about everyone else is in minus territory? Of course they used to be plus, so they're not immune to the plague either.

Kostitsyn would be on the plus side of the ledger if it weren't for one lousy game (-4); he's a cumulative +2 for the other 17 he's played. Not bad for a guy who's apparent interpretation of defensive hockey at the beginning of the season was making sure that he was in position to receive a breakaway pass. BTW, one of the funniest descriptions I've read recently of a Habs player concerns Jason Ward (and no, I'm not picking on him, it's just a funny observation because true). A poster on another board said that for all his good qualities he still possessed the turning radius of a 747.

Several years back someone said of Ward that he has the turning radius of the Exxon Valdez. So that suggests Ward has improved his skating from the supertanker category to the jumbo jet class.
