When Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin acquired forward Dale Weise from the Vancouver Canucks in February in exchange for defenceman Raphael Diaz, the happiest man in Canada might have been Weise’s father.
Miles Weise, a warehouse manager in Winnipeg, is a lifelong Habs fan and dreamed that one day his boy might play for the Canadiens. When he spoke to his son after the trade in February, Miles told him: “My little boy is going to play on the Montreal Canadiens.”
“And he said ‘dreams do come true, eh Dad?’ ” Miles told The Gazette’s Brenda Branswell after the trade. “I’m just on top of the world.”
Miles – and Canadiens fans – were on top of the world again Wednesday night when Weise scored in overtime as the Canadiens beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-4 in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series. Game 2 is Friday night in Tampa (7 p.m., CBC, RDS, TSN Radio 690).
GM Bergevin was caught by television cameras doing a dance in a loge after Weise’s goal. The dance is now being called The Marcarena or the Bergevin Boogie by many fans on Twitter.
“It was a good feeling,” Weise told reporters in Tampa after scoring the OT winner. “I can’t remember the last time I scored an overtime goal, but this has to be the biggest goal of my career.”
The Canadiens practised Thursday afternoon in Tampa with all the players on the ice, including Travis Moen, who is still recovering from a concussion and won’t be available for Game 2. The Canadiens spent time working on a power play that went 0-for-2 in Game 1 and is now 0-for-25 in the last nine games.
The Lightning practised before the Canadiens and injured goalie Ben Bishop was on the ice but didn’t take any shots. Coach Jon Cooper said he didn’t expect to see his No. 1 goalie, who has an elbow injury, back in net “any time soon.”
“This morning he skated in full pads and stuff like that,” Cooper told reporters in Tampa. “I don’t think we’re going to see Bishop any time soon, but I don’t know what soon is. This series would have to extend a little bit for him to come in.”
Weise, who started skating when he was 3, grew up as a Habs fan in Winnipeg and his father bought him a Canadiens scoreboard light for his bedroom.
“I bought it for him when he was a little kid and it’s still in his room,” his father told Branswell in February.
Miles Weise’s favourite Habs player was Guy Lafleur and “I almost had tears in my eyes,” he told Branswell after seeing his son in a Canadiens jersey for the first time after the trade.
If there were tears Wednesday night, they were tears of joy.
The Gazette’s Pat Hickey reports that Hall of Famer Phil Esposito, who now works as a radio analyst for Lightning games, drew Weise’s name for the media winning-goal pool before Game 1.
“Who the hell is Weise?” Esposito said as he threw away the piece of paper with Weise’s name on it.
The prize was $180.

According to the CBC there are 15 Canadian teams in the playoffs trying to stop Subban and the Habs from winning the cup.

After my hockey draft came home to watch the Ot with my 22yr old daughter she was watching the game on RDS...I didn't even have to ask.
Not sure it will get any better with the Sportsnet clowns but at least it may, may have a different spin and feel...we'll see.
Assuming the line up will remain unchanged still want our future D -men in the lineup IMO it's important they are going to be here next year.
Let's hope they let the teams play...on our side hope MT doesn't hold them back and has them attack like they did last game....PP has to get going it maybe the difference in this series.
Imagine if they win tonight the Bell Centre is going to be insane.

MacLean was doing his best Richards fanboy last night (not the first time) Saw MacLean's recent instalment of "Bradulation". He even suggested to either Stock or Friedman that one of them had a favourite player in the playoffs as well. Maybe it was Stock for ex-Bruin teammate Joe Thornton...as he's cheered openly for "Big Joe" in the past. Another reason to not watch CBC is that Nazem Kadri will be joining the Hockey Night in Canada crew for the Pens-BJ broadcast.... they can't help themselves from keeping anything blue team from creeping into everything they do. What the hell can Kadri add to any broadcast. Kadri on CBC will add to the ratings of the RDS broadcast.

No lineup changes for Habs in Game 2
The Canadiens hit the ice in Tampa just before 11:30 a.m. for an optional morning skate as they prepared to face the Lightning in Game 2 of their playoff series Friday night (7 p.m., CBC, RDS, TSN Radio 690).
A dozen players took part along with both goalies – Carey Price and Peter Budaj. After the skate, coach Michel Therrien told reporters in Tampa there would be no changes from the Game 1 lineup, which won 5-4 in overtime Wednesday night.
Only 10 skaters and goalie Kristers Gudlevskis took part in the Lightning morning skate. Rookie winger Ondrej Palat, who suffered an upper-body injury in Game 1, wasn’t on the ice and will be a game-time decision.
Here’s how the Habs lines are expected to look for Game 2:
Pacioretty-Desharnais-Vanek Prust-Plekanec-Gallagher Bourque-Eller-Gionta Bournival-Briere-Weise

The only way we lose this series is if we fail to contain Stamkos. That's MT's job! He better figure it out. I'd put PK on him. PK does that role well, he knows Stamkos and is not intimidated, and if MT's not going to let PK wheel and deal, then at least employ him effectively.
I'm predicting a big night from DD's line tonight.
Enuf hype about Mr. Playoff Briere already. Hoping he embraces it but concerned he returns to his mid-season complacency.
Please dress Tinordi! Weaver and Booboo look tired and can't maintain this pace. As I said in the PGT, had Tinordi pinched like Weaver he would be stapled to the bench: let's have some equal treatment please.

According to the CBC there are 15 Canadian teams in the playoffs trying to stop Subban and the Habs from winning the cup. There is nothing in this world that would fire up a TEAM more then the "us against the world" meme. It would give me great pleasure to be the supporter of the most hated winning team......like it was in the 60's, 70's and 80's.

The same third D pairing, eh? Didn't expect anything different.
I do expect to see a better game from Weaver and a worse game from Booboo...he wears down much quicker these days, and Tampa attacks with speed. Cooper will be trying to get Stamkos out against these guys. I know I would.

Sportsnet brought in Pernell Karl on their panel during the lockout last year and I thought he did a great job. I actually went to RDS for a bit last game because I just don't like Hughson's game call. Could be worse I guess. Heading over to Cigarviper's place for the game tonight. Cheers.

That 10 seconds made Bergy more human and caring then a dozen trades. It's no different from Hab fans yelling and screaming obscenities after every loss or for that matter, every win. The only difference is that we bleed our colours...and he may only bleed them depending on the signature of the paycheck.

In this day and age, this is the sort of thing that will go viral around the world particularly if the Habs go far. But the 'suits' will never get it. Had to laugh at the Globe and Mail today as they said "It was immediately dubbed 'the macarena'". Huh? Pretty sure it was dubbed the "maRcarena". I guess that's a little too clever for the Globe folks in TO to catch onto. I could see all the fans doing this after goals at the Bell Centre during the playoffs now. good laughs all around - MB too. Wouldn't it be great if the players started doing this after goals - sure beat the stupid skate by the bench hi-fiving everyone. Some places are content with waving white towels AGAIN! But Montreal always being on the forefront of all things hockey culture will run with the fun of all this. I could see PK having fun with it. Enjoy mes amis! Fun times in the Mecca!

Yah, Cooper said that the only chance of seeing Bishop is if the series goes deep, but even he didn't know what 'any time soon' really meant.
A goalie getting dressed, skating around, but not taking shots isn't maintaining any sort of game shape imo. It's a thinly veiled attempt to keep the Habs guessing.

Dave Andreychuk said Bishop is likely out for the series yesterday. He does colour commentary for the Lightning and seems to be pretty close to the team still. He said this on TSN radio. Grain of salt and all as he's not Dr. Recchi or anything.

Just a few musings. * The Habs have to tighten up a bit more. I think it's safe to say that Tampa will come out flying. They don't want to go down two games going back to Montreal. If les gars can withstand the initial onslaught I think they'll be fine. * A lot of media focus has been on how bad a game the Bolts played. * I hadn't realized there was conflict between Torts and Weise They were on the Rangers at the same time as well. * would like to see a spread of goals from our side, but one-goal games seem to be the norm. Cheers.
