Not a rumour. Just a thought if things with Vanek don't transpire.
Marion is older than Thomas, has had some health issues (groin mostly). Still, he's a great skater and has had a great playoff for the Kings. He's shown he can fit into a team, and work through the West as part of a playoff run. His speed, and ability to transition would be a good fit. He's a shooter, which would fit with our play makers. Health would be my biggest concern.

didn't work out in either Columbus or NY. I'd be weary He had 2 forty goal seasons in NYC. The season in between those he had 48pts in 62 games. The season he was traded was the lock out year, and he had Torts for a coach. I think he's easily good for 30-30; more if he stays healthy and plays on a team he fits in with.

Gaborik would be exactly the type of player we could use but it would almost certainly become an albatross of a contract before he's done. He's already making $7.5 million, so there's your starting offer, and given that he is one of the very few big name players available this summer, and that he is having an outstanding playoffs, I think you're going to have to give him maximum term too. I could very easily see somebody like the Islanders throwing a seven year, $56 million contract at him. Or Flyers. Or Devils. At 32 years old, with all those miles on that body... That's a big risk. A very big risk. Of course if he wants to sign a three year deal for the pleasure of playing in Montreal, then I would be all for it!

I expect he'll re-sign in LA, actually. He's got great chemistry with Kopitar. And he's had enough problems on other teams to appreciate finding his niche.

You're right in that he knows what it's like to be in a place where he doesn't feel like he fits. He fits there.

Plus the Kings will probably deal Mike Richards as I can't see them paying that kind of dough to center a 4th line.

Plus the Kings will probably deal Mike Richards as I can't see them paying that kind of dough to center a 4th line. I can't see anyone taking that contract without LA eating a significant portion of it. It runs through 2020 at a hit of $5.75 million and he gets paid more than $5 million until 2017. Richards' has had respectable playoff performances since joining the Kings, but hasn't had a 60pt season since 2010-11. Given his skating, it's hard to think he will again.

He's only 29, just won another cup. Several teams would take him if all they have to give up is take on his contract. Brad Richards on other hand, now that is a scary contract. Given that he is 34, 6.7 million caphit and signed thru 2020.

If LA don't find any tskers, they might just buy out Richards' contract. He could still be a valuable piece to a contender. He shows great leadership. He has two cups and an Olympic gold medal to his name.
