...apparently it only depends on Gorges waiving his NTC right now.

Really not sure about this one. Franson is bigger, but not more physical. He is a RHD, plays right side. That puts Emelin back on left with Subban. Franson has more offensive upside. He's younger.
I thought he had a year left at $2 million, but as was pointed out, he's a RFA.
Gorges is no doubt feeling the pressure on this ... if he doesn't waive it, will there be angst felt both ways? He clearly isn't the future captain, so if he stays he's out of the running for that.
Emelin-Subban Markov-Franson
Emelin is the closest thing to a stay at home blue liner in that group.

I like it. Surprised the Laffs are interested in a defensive minded D from MTL that was once thought to be C material....the last one didnt really turn out too well.(cough...Komi...cough)
Franson was disappointed at the $2 mill last season, at least that's what the contract whispers seemed to say so he may be looking for a substantial raise...based on who knows what at this point...anyway, anything less than $3.9 due to Gorges has the payroll ahead of the game...
I actually liked what I saw of Franson and if it helps even up the right side, all the better

Some rumors that the Leafs player going the other way could be Kadri ... per Basu and indirectly Friedman

NOthing worse than a joke that turns out true. LOL . While it may be fair value, Kadri doesn't address a need. He only piles on the glut at center.

I don't care for Kadri, but if we're picking him up in order to put something together for Winnipeg to get Kane, it makes more sense.

why would they pick up Franson & then try to negotiate a contract. If your trying to shed salary why pick up a guy who expects a big raise. And if it's Kadri then he has one year left & will be expecting a raise.
As I said in anothere thread I think this leak is from Toronto's side & you shouldn't do business with someone that can't keep their mouth shut.

I like it. Surprised the Laffs are interested in a defensive minded D from MTL that was once thought to be C material.... Brendon Shanahan doesn't have too many character guys in Toronto (just my opinion), which is probably why he targeted Gorges ... just read Gorges statement and I have to say that I agree with him ... he poured his heart and soul into the organization ... he may have taken heat for some of his play, but for the most part he's been a rock both on and off the ice ... you don't just replace character guys like him ... Bergevin has a plan, sure, but he's going against his philosophy of building on character guys when he lets Gorges go ... it's a business decision, yes, but Gorges has to be treated with respect ... the same respect he gave the Habs ... Cheers.

I don't think Berg is the leak. Someone at the draft spilled the beans that there were talks going on. Media took it from there.

NOthing worse than a joke that turns out true. Kadri has the skill and work ethic we need in a sniper. It's worth it to hear Cherry rant about how good Kadri was all along.

The reaction by Josh almost makes me not want to trade him. Almost, but not quite. Anything to make the habs better.

Darren Dreger just said it was absolutely NOT a forward coming back from Toronto. Which lends credence to the Franson option.
He also brought up a good point; the leak didn't necessarily have to come from one of the management teams. It could have come from another player. For example, if Gorges had of said to a teammate "can you believe it? Bergevin just tried to trade me to the Leafs!" Given that the news came from McKenzie, and he and Dreger are good buddies/co-workers it could be Dreger telling us without telling us, if you know what I mean.

I think MacKenzie is closer to Leaf players than Hab players .... and if it was a player, than he should be traded too, even if that player is named Price or Subban.
I am sure Shanahan gave a heads-up to his player as well.

Steve Simmons isn't happy about the I'd rather go to Buffalo than Toronto deal. Looks real good on the Leafs I think. www.torontosun.com/2014/07/01/josh-gorges-trade-the-ultimate-insult-to-maple-leafs He does mention that it was Franson for Gorges. Don't know, may like it better this way. Franson/Gilbert seems a wash. But we also get that 2nd rounder in a couple of years.

Simmons was sitting directly across from Michael Farber when Farber was telling a similar story about John Leclair. After years of playing in Philly he turned down an offer from the Devils. He just couldn't play for them. It happens. Typical Toronto - it's all about them. And he didn't let facts get in the way - this dolt never mentions in his story that Gorges added Buffalo to his list because Gionta signed there.

I read that there might have been several offers from Toronto for Gorges, among them, Franson or Lupul. Wouldn't have been happy with either one
