The Habs have invited 50 players (yes, that is a lot) to their annual development camp, which will be held in Brossard on July 7-11. 20 guys were drafted by the Habs, 9 were acquired by trade or free agency, and 21 are invites. 5 of the 6 kids drafted in the 2014 draft will be there, as only 7th rounder Evans will be missing as he has some school commitments from what I have read elsewhere. canadiens.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=725366&navid=DL|MTL|homeTop picks like Beaulieu, McCarron, Sherbak, DeLaRose and Fucale will be there, as well as recently signed 22 year old Czech free agent Jiri Sekac...the international man of mystery!! canadiens.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=99001This camp is often a lot of drills and off ice info sessions, so hard to get a good read on the players in game-like situations. They usually have a scrimmage or two at the end.

The nice thing about the development camp is the kids get to see how crazy it is. I went a couple of years ago and it was packed. They could have had it at the bell centre and it would have been packed.

So, the kid that got to play in the playoffs is there, but Tinordi wasn't invited?

Tinordi not being invited could just mean mgmt feels he has little to learn from this type of camp. He was drafted a year before Beau too.

I don't find it odd that Tinordi isn't invited.
...but I do find it odd that Beaulieu is!
22yrs old, 2 years in the pro, some NHL games under his belt including playoffs games... and he needs to go to a "devellopmpent camp"... with a bunch of Juniors and career AHLers... gotta be kidding me!

I wouldn't read too much into Beaulieu being at development camp. I think there's plenty of benefit in having him there. For management, he'll be the reference to which the other prospects will be compared. For our prospects, he'll be a representation of NHL level skill. As for beaulieu himself, he should be trying to help out the younger guys and develop a sense of leadership.

Yes that's how I see it. It's not skill development, it's maturity and leadership development.

I am still high on McCarron. I compare him to other big American college players we had here before. Pacioretty and John LeClair. Their career at 19 didn't look as good as it ended up. It takes them longer

Yeah a lot of fans calling McCarron a bust but this article by the gazette
Habs prospect McCarron remains a work in progress BY BRENDA BRANSWELL, THE GAZETTE JUNE 27, 2014 ( can't post link right now)
Helps explain what happened and how he turned things around after Christmas. And how this summer should be a big chance for him to get ready.

Sometimes being that big at 18 is a hindrance. It can take some time to sort it all out. I think he can be anything from a Brian Boyle to Tim Kerr.

I'm not certain about who he will be a good comparison too....I don't think tim Kerr would be as he was a 50 goal scorer multiple times...of coarse different era...but I don't think he has the potential to come close to that...brian Boyle is a good comparison I think....if trumps that then it's a great surprise...hard to get a read as he is behind in his development compare to guys in his draft class...his size and changing leagues set him back a bit...

WRT Kerr, my meaning is a dominant net presence and pp guy. A garbage man with hands. Kerr made his leaving in a 50 sq ft area. 50 goals from that sort of player, in this era, is unlikely. It's above and beyond what Boyle is though. I hesitate to say Leclair because I haven't see a booming shot from McCarron, and Leclair was a decent skater. Powerful stride at least. John could score from multiple areas.

Loved watching his puck possession skills dominate the OHL last season.......his skating could use work....not his speed but his agility.....seemed alittle ackward.......carries puck to net.... His shot is average at best I think...lots of stuff to like about this kid but is a huge project( no pun intended)

With many big kids who go throw growth spurts, it takes time for the body's other bits to catch up. So, often, they're awkward, uncoordinated. clumsy. If you can look past that to when everything becomes synchronized again, their larger mass gives them a pretty good advantage over others.

I think McCarron will end up being power forward. Score 20 goals, 100 PIM, 2nd line forward. A more physical Blake Wheeler. But it will take about 3 more years.

I don't think he could be part of a better program. Hunter and the Knights are strong. If they can't help get him ready, no one can.

My expectations for McCarron are Turner Stevenson. Big, useable top-9 forward, but not much production or ability to form a cohesive, productive line with more skilled players.

It'll be disappointing if he's another Turner Stevenson. He's already a better skater than TS ever was. Stevenson was the proverbial pylon.

The players are not the only ones who get invites to the camp, as Montreal has invited two Q coaches, Eric Veilleux and Dominic Ducharme, to help with the drills at camp.
A little pre-scouting of potential pro assistant coaches perhaps?

I like that move. It introduces them to the organization. A little familiarity goes a long way when looking at job opportunities. Therrien should start worrying.

reports have come out that JDLR has put on 13lbs. He is 6'3" and 203lbs. Filling out nicely. I wouldn't be surprised though to see Sekac play with Habs and JDLR do a season in Hamilton.
Beaulieu was invited but didn't have to show up. Reway and Nygren stayed in Europe. The fact that he accepted and showed up to an optional development camp says a lot about his maturity.

Great move by Habs to invite Ducharme and co. DD the coach is going to be in the NHL before long. The sooner they realize it as a club and find a place for him the better.
