Very few rookies make it to the NHL the first year and even fewer #26 picks. I was certain Jonathan Drouin would make it his first year and he was sent back to his Jr team. Drouin is going to be a great player. Better not to rush kids and let them develop their offense against weaker competition.

I don't think the signing necessarily indicates an accelerated path.
Re Drouin, having seen him a lot here in Halifax I really didn't think he'd make it in his first camp. He's got elite vision, and play making, but wasn't overly strong on the puck or a powerful skater. He's improved both. Still, anyone in Halifax who watched the Moose could see plain as day that MacKinnon was blessed with NHL speed and stride. Drouin was always behind him in that regard. He was behind Ehlers this year too.

MacCarron signed a ELC when he decided to go Junior. Means nothing other than their rights belong to Habs

I assumed that he was smaller and had to be quicker to do it. He appeared to be a natural sniper who found the back of the net when given an opportunity.

It's his greatest asset imo. He gets from point a to b efficiently, but when you watch him skate he hasn't got the powerful stride that Mac does. When you watched Mac play as a junior, you saw NHL level skating, frame, and shot.
